Re: Carbon Credits

I agree Entwisi to a degree, and this is why I have never actively encouraged renewable energy methods, until such time that the public would see some benefit, and now, anybody installing ground source, air source or solar, would see a benefit in thier pocket.

I agree entirely.
Cows produce more CO2 than humans......and the UK contributes something in the region of 1% of the total CO2 in the world....so whatever we do isn't going to make much of a difference.
I'm sure now that i have expressed this opinion, the thought police will track me down and try to brainwash me.

There is also zero proof that we are NOT having any effect on the climate.

However there is proof that the ozone layer has thinned and disappeared completely over the poles. Every schoolboy knows that the ozone layer filters out much of the harmful UV rays and if it is missing or thinner, which it is, then more UV rays hit the planet. 50 years ago and more, skin cancer was virtually unheard of. An excess of exposure to UV rays has been established as the major cause of skin cancer. That is why we now have ‘sun bloc’ creams that year by year have a higher blocking factor. Science has identified which man produced gasses destroy the ozone layer.

Between 1954 and 1967 I have visited and lived in some of the hottest places on earth and never once got burned by the sun. Tanned yes, burned no. Nowadays I can feel my skin burning within a few minutes of it being exposed to direct sunlight. No doubt the ageing of my skin will be a factor but so will excessive UV rays.

Science has also established that CO2 and methane are the major cause for trapping the heat in our atmosphere. Human activities in burning fossil fuels create CO2 and animals expel methane. In the last 50 years the world population has increased dramatically and the bovine population has outstripped that increase. Ergo more CO2 and more methane. To compound the effect deforestation of squillions of acres has removed the very trees that absorb the CO2 and replaced them with grasslands for raising cattle. What some people might call a double whammy.

Although I agree that this planet has gone through a cooling and warming process over the millennia and we are in the throws of a natural warming cycle, nonetheless man’s activities have accelerated the warming. And that is the point, man’s activities are not the direct cause of global warming but a contributory factor that is accelerating global warming.

I also agree that the UK’s pitiful attempts to stem the tide are a mere drop in the ocean and will not make any meaningful contribution to stemming the tide.

My final agreement is that what we laughingly call a government is exploiting the situation and crying wolf to screw us for more and more taxes.

Czech president, Vaclav Klaus, is one of the few who get it right. He calls the whole "Green" movement the next totalitarianism. Read his book, "Blue Planet in Green Shackles."
