No lettie the New Zealand government wanted to impose the 'flatulence' tax, so the farmers formed the 'farmers against stupid taxes' F.A.R.T. for short action group.

The acronym F.A.R.T. actually stands for Farmers Against Ridiculous Taxes. I'm pretty sure that this all kicked off in 2003, I know that it was shortly before I got there the first time I visited. The actual 'fart tax' was aimed at funding research into ways to reduce the emissions of livestock, not just to tax the farmers.... When they looked at reducing these emissions they thought of perhaps modifying the animal's diets or giving some sort of dietry or pharmacological supplement to reduce the emissions. Unfortunately the people of NZ are very wary of any sort of modified food and suspicious of GM foods (and quite rightly so). There is no way that the people who I met there would eat anything that they knew had been tampered with. Fresh actually means fresh over there too, not fresh frozen like here...

It has been found that NZ livestock do produce significantly more gas than their European cattle and sheep cousins.....attributed to NZ livestock having a fresher and more natural diet with less additives, drugs and interference...

I have to admit that fresh NZ lamb, beef and venison are amongst the best meats I have ever tasted. They taste like real meat used to do when I was a kid.....

excellent, They alone in the developed world receive no subsidies. since these were abolished, agriculture has been the fastest growing sector of the country's economy, they can still ship it half way round the world, and
compete on price with Britain and lavishly-subsidised counterparts in the
E.U.

Its a pity the nearest I get to real meat is from the farmers market as at least it has been hung properly and dosnt look like its previous owner was force fed steroids while stood in a stall.

But the really terrifying thought, is that, when Defra works out that Britain
has even more sheep an cattle than either of these countries, our own Labour government may come up with the bright idea that Britain must save the planet by following New Zealands example.

Ah that makes more sense now Lettie. We were only talking earlier today about the additives in food, even "fresh" stuff with all its pesticides and the concoctions given as animal feeds. Good on the New Zealnders for sticking up fo the natural approach. So their animals produce more bottom burps? Maybe the answer would be to grow more trees then or stop hacking down what we've got and let nature compensate in a natural way.

As there has been that much damage to natures answer to "bad emissions" that we cant aford to wait for it to catch up. So we have to take drastic acction to cure this problem. If we hadnt worn blinkers been greedy and in some cases breeding faster than rodents we would be in as much of a mess. We have only ourselves to blame and cannot hold anyone or thing responsible for our mess.

Go along with that willow as long as the trees are indiginous, the way the Lord intended, or nature , or Charles Darwin, or whoaver seeks to lay claim to salvation. (for my sake no bad karma plea-----------se.)
