Re: Central Heating without immersion?

The amount of hot water im allowed a day is 2 & half bath fills at the very most before it runs cold completely & would have to boost the immersion which would only then give a further quarter bath full thats atm...whoooo to get instant hot water on demand would be luxury...as well as a reasonably warm room

Re: Central Heating without immersion?

Thank's panther, I'll stick with my Baxi Bermuda back boiler then it reheats the cylinder before I finish bathing, 'and no I don't stop in all day', there have been mixed reports about central heating, if you have not had a backboiler system it's ok to have a combi, but a dissapointment if you have. DEFRA the government environment people are dishing these grants out wholsale via 'Homewise', this is to save energy, I applied and got one but they want £700 off me as a 'top up' I currently have 8 radiators, they only put 5 in so I would be paying £700 for a worse system ,and then I would have to put extra radiators in at my own expense that is if the boiler was big enough , naturally they got told were to shove their grant.

Re: Central Heating without immersion?

Mel,

Being copper the tank will cool quite quickly when they have drained it. They could always just run the hot tap until it goes cold if they wanted.
I bet they do take out the old cistern, scrap copper rates are good at t he moment and they will be wanting to weigh it in

Re: Central Heating without immersion?

my combi boiler does both heating and hot water

did you know its actually cheaper to leave the hot water on rather than only turning it on when its needed?

Re: Central Heating without immersion?

I replaced my old central heating boiler with a combi/condenser 4 years ago. It was Summer so I was using the immersion heater, not the heating boiler, when it was done. They came at 8 a.m. and I hadn't had the immersion heater on that morning (I have an electric shower so it wasn't needed) but they had the tank drained and removed in no time, which they could have done even if the water was hot. My old boiler was in the kitchen but the new one was put in the airing cupboard, the feeder tank is above it in the loft. I was only without water for half a day and I had hot water that night, from the new boiler. It took longer to install 2 new radiators and replace 2 old ones than to do the boiler and the whole job took only 3 days - and this was British Gas!

How can leaving the tap on save money?

When the kids forget to turn the hot water tap off it makes the bath room all steamy.

If you have a combi you won't have a header tank as they are fed straight from the cold water main.

I know you did not mean leave the tap on yes. What did you mean? Are you talking about a ombi or proper central heating systems with a hot water cylinder.
