Changes in constituency boundaries

I see the plans for altering constituency boundaries are out today. How will it affect the ones of you in Hyndburn. I see Hapton and Padiham are to be included with it rather than Burnley. What other changes are there to Hyndburn. I am all in favour of reducing the number of MPs but to split towns in half seems ridiculous.

Re: Changes in constituency boundaries

Biggest and best change is dropping the awful name of hyndburn. It's a stinky river and nowt else. Don't agree with pulling in parts of Burnley, but glad it will be Accrington constituency again.

Re: Changes in constituency boundaries

It's not the only strange combination Margaret. I think whoever made these plans must have done it after a few bevies. Pendle is to be done away with and the new 'Clitheroe and Colne' will stretch from Earby to Bamber Bridge.

Never before have I considered myself to be a resident of Rossendale, or for that matter Oswaldtwistle(though that is closer).

Hasn't Oswaldwistle always been part of the Accrington constituency since 1918? We're getting shut of Rising Bridge and Haslingden but gaining Hapton, Padiiham and parts of Burnley. I can't make my mind up whether this is fair exchange or bare faced robbery.

Re: Changes in constituency boundaries

maybe I am thick...Or maybe it was not explained particularly well in the article I read, but somehow I thought that Rossendale and Oswaldtwistle were to become a 'new' area.....?And that Clayton le moors was going to be lumped in with this district.
At least the name Hyndburn is going to be ditched. I never did like that name.

Re: Changes in constituency boundaries

By the time this government has instituted the so called "necessary" boundry changes there will be less Labour/other parties and more conservatives to rule us and folk think that things can not get any worse !
