Charity Collecting Bags

This week up to today Wednesday we have had three charity collecting bags put through the letter box,I used to put old clothes in them when I could, but now it seems to have got a racket and firms getting in on the pickings.I now take clothing and bric a brack down to the local hospice charity shop, who I found out have a great selection of jigsaws at £1each which help to pass the winter months away

I only fill the charity bags left by the charities I recognise....the ones which say they will donate to third world countries(but are in fact a commercial enterprise) get used as a liner for my kitchen waste bin.

Re: Charity Collecting Bags

I always give to the British Heart Foundation. They always come on the specified day and leave a thank you note through the letter box. I have had non-collections from other charities, so I no longer bother with them.

BHF are very good and they will call if you have donations and can't get down to the shop with them.

We don't get anything like that in Italy - just people cold-calling and asking for donations -which i hate!

For old clothing there's a special container where you can leave them for Caritas which is affiliated to the Catholic church -the stuff is sorted and used for the homeless.

Love jigsaws myself Roy - spent many a happy hour with my boys when they were young doing them.

Re: Charity Collecting Bags

I usually keep the BHF ones and fill them when I have stuff that needs to go. I then take them to the shop myself. All the others I use as bin bags. I haven't bought bin bags for ages, well, we are in a recession

Re: Charity Collecting Bags

I only donate to British Heart Foundation due to them always being pleasent and happy to deal with anything.

I gave up on Cancer Research when that shop was in Accy as one time I did go in to drop a bag of clothes off they woman behind the counter just grunted at me and then turned her back to me when I asked where I could leave the bag. When she did this I left with my bag and took it to BHF and they gladly took it and thanked me more than once.

The bags left on my door step just get used as rubish bags in the kitchen same as Marg, I dont mind dropping my stuff in the BHF shop when I have stuff to donate.

I only support three charities, The Christy (of which I'm a foundation member) Asthma UK, and Osteoporosis society, if I have any clothing to give away I usually give it to age concern, I used to ring them and they collected it
