Chateau Church Grand Cru, Accy Merlot....
One effect of global warming is the growth in the number of vineyards in the UK. In fact, given this year's weather, estimates are that English wine production will double to some 3 million bottles. Ahh, you might say...all that production is down in the south-east corner or in the southern Severn valley.
Well, you'd be wrong...there is one vineyard here in Lancashire - and it's north of Accy! Carnforth, to be presise:
Midlands and North Vineyard Listing - English Wine Producers
Well, if they can grow it there, why not in Accy or Church? Why not chop down all those trees on the coppice and plant vines instead? This western facing slope would be ideal...and so would the land alongside the canal at Church. Is it not time to beat the global-warming doom-mongers and turn our higher temperatures into a positive advantage? Why can we not be sitting down, seven years from now, with a nice Accrington merlot 2012?

That's what we need - a bit of creative thinking.

Just think....... in 10 years time our vintage from the Huncoat Valley may have replaced the Hunter Valley..

We have been growing grapes on the allotment for 25years a lot of hard work for little return, if you do not prune them you only get small fruit, wines good
not Merlot i'm afraid.
