Chav's are OK
What is a Chav?.. a young person who wears tracksuit bottoms?.. I wear them sometimes, I might put a baseball cap on if its raining.. hooded tops were all the fashion in the 60's and 70's you would not wear a parker without a hood .. so what is it with so called Chav's?.. it seems to be all the rage about teddy boys music and the gear they worn.. the same teddy boys that caused riots in the late fifties..no one mentions the skinheads (cos you may have been one yerself).. or mods and rockers.. do the teens of today behave any worse?

Re: Chav's are OK
was refering more to their general behaviour and lack of respect mancie, you cant get on a bus full of em without the air being blue, i dont give a rats, but when yer with yer missus it aint on, same in town etc. dont honestly remember any ted riots late 50s, mods n rockers yeh in mid/late 60s, but the big ones was mainly organised and on beaches, not great but preferable to town centres i think, the lack of respect i,m on about is more down to a generation of parents not instilling it in my opinion.

Re: Chav's are OK
Mancie I had a think before I answered this topic, these are valid questions you ask, so here goes, just imagine no motor car, Mum, Dad, Grandma, and Grandad, along with your other offsprings and yourself, all living sleeping and eating under the same roof, everyone used the buses to get from a to b. Respect for elders was expected and got, we were no angels but territorial 'scraps' were about the only violence I remember ,and they were short lived. This was late 50s early 60s.

Re: Chav's are OK
You don’t need to be part of any group / cult / click to mug someone you need to be desperate.
When I was a lad back in the late 70’s I was a black-back, a greb, a greebo etc. I used to come home from work in my “dirty cloths” , go to my garage where I kept my bike ( BSA c15) and put on my proper dirty cloths because at that time that was the fashion for a greebo and we played the part because we had an image to keep. Having said that, I and my mates never hurt anyone, it was fun.
I worked with a lad at that time and he was a skin head. He used to tell me tales about himself and his mates going to football matches and battling with away fans/ home fans?, tales that would make your hair curl and I’m sure that they had an image to keep too. hehe
I kind of agree with Mancie here because I think they are doing no different that what we did as kids years ago, and like most groups there is always the odd idiot amongst them just like what we had.
I bet most of them/ all will grow-up to be decent civilized people just like us and not only that they will have their stories to tell just like we have.
I suppose there are a lot of people frightened of them as me but I’m sure there where a lot of people frightened of us when we where kids too. hehe
Pay backs a b**ch and they will get their turn.

Have to agree with Cashman on this .....During the late 60s I don't ever remember any bother on the last bus out of Accy on weekend nights to Clayton/Gt Harwood , as for 'blue' language forget it , any use of the f or c word would have seen you thrown off in no time and not by the conductor but by the fellow passengers , everyone had been out for good night , and the bus ride home was a "neutral zone' last chance to maybe meet a lass, most of the folks knew each other or knew someone who knew them, the last thing anyone wanted was to get a reputation as an d**khead .
(what amazes me now, looking back is that there were no public lavs around the Melbourne st. bus stop (a 5 pound fine for taking a leak in a back street) and a bus ride to Arrod after about 8 pints or so is how I managed to make home every night ........)

Re: Chav's are OK
First of all, the name Chav is just another label to describe youngsters (and some not so young) who have a certain "look". It'll be replaced with something else in a few years.
Do they behave worse than previous generations? Yes they do but, in my opinion, for one main reason. In the 50s, 60s, even the 70s there were men in black uniforms walking around the streets keeping watch out for trouble-makers. They were called policemen. Kids didn't hang around in one spot causing trouble because they got caught. Now it's rare for anyone in authority, and with back-up, to be around so Trouble is much easier to get away with.

What so muggings where never around when you where younger??? people never got attacked and robbed...or did the media have something else to focus on then???
you may not think you where threatening to anyone but how do you know??? Some people might have refused to go to the shop cause theres always them groups of kids outside!
People always think the worst of everyone!!!
