The tax allowance for the whole year in which you attain age 65
( this tax yr) is tax allowance 9030
It took me a bit of hassle to get it - you need to phone them to remind them how old you are

that would have been easy to arrange if it had not been sold off by you know who, think now the logistics of it would be difficult?

Yes, they know that Margaret, but there is a 'however' on my new coding, and this tax code has been sent to the company responsible for my very 'small private' pension which doesn't even match the amount they are talking about.

The firm who are paying your company pension will need a notification direct from your tax office - I had to ring 3 times and they sent 3, before I eventually got a refund.
PS you finish up with a peculiar tax code because they reduce it by your retirement pension.

Understand this, but they are saying still owe this debt of £815 which they said that last year and adjusted my code then to cover it to my Employers, but now saying I still owe it !! Ah well, will speak to them tomorrow to get an explanation... do understand Income Tax, but this one got me baffled, probably looking at it more closely as my income now reduced drastically
Sorry folks to be self-indulgent with my problem.
Don't understand this new allowance on the child benefit either ...

Re: child allowance
So people on child benefit and oaps will get a fuel allowance?
Fair enough, not got a problem with that but what about the rest of us?
Just because we work we don't earn massive amounts,we don't get any help with anything and our gas bill has just tripled so we can't afford it!
God knows what it will be like in winter, its scarey!
We have already turned the boiler off to try and save some money and are investing in some wooley jumpers and thick duvets for winter.
I don't think this has been thought through properly, just another empty gesture from GB to try and save his political life.

Don't worry cherokee he's already thieved it of you before he gives it back, he's been taking £5 billion a year out of private pension schemes for 11 years now, I have a friend who projected pension is now £60 a week less that it was 12 years ago, and due to the 10p tax fiasco is taxed on it as well

I don't know much about tax codes, Katex but hope you get yours sorted.
The allowances I was talking about for pensioners are the heating allowance, free tv licence, bus pass, prescriptions etc
People like Tin Monkey don't get any of these or any of the allowances for young children. There are no allowances for people like him so I can understand him being miffed off.....that's all I was saying.

Re: child allowance
This isnt fair. Everyone has the rising cost of living so why do people with kids get help. Sorry i agree with Tin monkey - im in the same position as him.
Wonder if spugs up for being a daddy again?

Is it any wonder people like Shillelagh and Tin Monkey feel the system is unfair towards them when they read statements like yours?
You say that this mate of yours gets £360 a month extra for having two kids and a wife. This makes it sound like everyone with 2 kids and a wife is just given large sums like this every month but that isn't true, is it?
My husband has two kids and a wife and I can tell you that he does not get £360 a month or anything for that matter.
In fact unmarried people are often entitled to more.
You don't say anything about your friend's age, earnings or circumstances etc just that he is married with two kids....this alone would not result in him being given £360 a month, there must be other circumstances. Is one of his children disabled? ...and you don't say who gives him this?
Is it tax credits, carers allowance, what?
Give us the full picture please.
