You don't say anything about your friend's age, earnings or circumstances etc just that he is married with two kids....this alone would not result in him being given £360 a month, there must be other circumstances. Is one of his children disabled? ...and you don't say who gives him this?
Is it tax credits, carers allowance, what?

Give us the full picture please.

He clears about £260 a week,30 yrs old,lives with partners mum and dad (not married sorry)and its family tax credit,also refuses to do any overtime because this would affect family tax credit-hope that makes it clearer

£90 a week 360 a month,if you get £36 perhaps he's on the fiddle.

depends how many hours you work and how much tax you pay..... is it not a rebate on your tax?

I wonder if the next election will be timed to coincide with this latest bribe.....whoops, one off payement?

I think Gordon Brown must have been watching Peter Britcliffe, when he found money for the free pensioner's coaches to the coast, for the month, and only that month, after the local election.

I do BOC (better off calculations) everyday and they do vary depending on age, circumstances. There are lots of different premiums such as over 50 you will receive a premium for this, being disadvantaged in the work place you can receive a prmium for this working 30 hours plus also has a premium. If you earn 15,000 pa then you will receive less tax credits but may still get full child tax credit. The government are introducing return to work credits (£40.00 per week for the 1st twelve months)for people returning to work who are on health related benefits. If you think you are not getting correct tax credits or child tax credits or any of the premiums mentioned above it may be worth visiting your local CAB and they can do a BOC for you, no point asking JCP as they are not really interested in people who have already returned to the work place.

it does, he gets the working family tax credit then.....i know a few people who make a bit on that old scam........makes my blood boil.....so i`ll be grabbing the £150 fuel payout with both hands if/when it comes......

Tax credits are paid in arrears so basically you get credits based on the previous years earnings, depending on his hourly rate at 40 hours fetching 260 home would be about 6.50 per hour,each year he would earn approx 13,500 which is below the 15,000 threshold so he probably would be getting up to 80.00 per week tax and child credits, this is only a rough guess I would need exact figures for the breakdown to be right

maybe you need to contact tax credits and fill out the forms again, you can do it by telephone to

Unmarried couples are treated in the same way as married couples when it comes to tax credits, benefits etc. If any unmarried couples get more then they are fiddling.

I think this may have been mixed up with single people, who depending on their circumstances can claim tax credits but not all single people are eligible and if anyone gets more than they are entitled to they will have to pay them back and the tax man doesn't give up until he has every peeny back

I think everyone would benefit from an allowance for fuel bills I may work full time but it doesn't mean that the price increase on fuel will not affect me and I am sure there are lots of othe people on here who would benefit from a little help from the government
