I wouldn't be happy for my children to travel in a car without being properley strapped in but when we were kids we didn't even have seat belts in the back.

So the general consensus seems to be that
taxis can legally ride with children/babies without them being restrained

and that

having a car seat or booster in a taxi would be terribly inconvenient for those wondeful people who automatically think they make up the majority (shoppers with no children who need EVERY bit of space in the boot)

well what a terribly British attitude -i'm alright Jack s***w you- oh and by the way your glass of cider is not only half empty i have just peed in it

maybe there could be dedicated times/days of the week where taxis have car seats in them, provided and checked by asda, that mums with young babies could use of the mums i work with i get the general idea that they have a certain shopping day and try to stick to it .
does anybody else have any ideas ? (on how it could be helped) maybe it is something we could change

I don't understand why people take children with them to supermarkets.

When I had a toddler (Asda was on Bbn Rd then)- I never did.

Shopping is stressful enough without being lumbered with children (and husbands for that matter)

I appreciate that single parents would need to ask grandparents or other single parent friends (taking turns) to have care of children whilst making a shopping trip.

Supermarkets are not children friendly places, unless you treat a ride in a trolley for them as a pleasure trip - I'm sure that novelty wears off for them very quickly.

I find that they are often places where children have temper tantrums to the extreme annoyance of other shoppers - that shows that the children are stressed too.

So why on earth do you take them with you?

My grand-daughter will not travel in my car with her youngster because I do not have a car seat, she walks when ever she can or gets on a bus if too far to walk.As for taxis she couldn't afford them anyway.

then yer grandaughter is one of the sensible ones, who obviously does not expect everyone else to cater for this.

my expectation is not that everyone should cater for mums with young children, but should we not be moving with the times?

and as for taking children with you shopping - we make it a positive thing he has never had a tantrum yet and as he is getting older he enjoys helping his mum (who now has a car so its not even a problem anymore)
why should she not take her son with her - he is not an inconvenience to be got rid of he is her son and she enjoys his company.

*perhaps i should take the view that the motorized trolleys in asda are taking up the space of at least two extra trolleys each - and why cant other people do their shopping for them if they cant walk around themselves- they often block up the aisles i cant get my trolley round them

*and rude people shouldnt go shopping either as they are always ramming peoples ankles.

* i dont actually have these views, but we make compensations and adjustments for these people so that they can easily access shops and have a "normal" life without having to constantly rely on others for help -why should it be diferent for mums or dads for that matter, who have young children, without cars?

EXACTLY, but in todays society, you get parents that think it's OTHER peoples responsibility for the safety of their children.

Me personally, I would buy a child seat for a car, and take it if a car didn't have one!! But then again, I take the responsibility of my children on my own back, don't expect other people to do it for me.

It's already been said that these seats are " 2 a penny " so RESPONSIBLE parents should cater for their own bloody children.

I stick my granddaughter in the boot to stop my cans rolling about.never had any trouble yet.But on a serious note a taxi boot has to be big enough to hold a bail of hay.

Because I would get arrested for leaving Emily who is 2 1/2 at home watching TV on her own when I go shopping.

You will note that I did not suggest leaving the child in a 'home alone' situation

, but with the other parent, a grandparent or a friend who is also a single parent

Spot on slinky. If you have a child and you want to put it in a car then you need a car seat. If not then walk.

In my post above I linked to the new seat belt adjusters that are crash tested to the required standard so comply with the law. How many of you are using old booster seats from your previous children that have not been tested to ECE R44/03? I suspect you are in breech of the law and could be fined as though the child was not in a booster seat at all if the seat you use does not have this test mark.

I did not have children to palm them off on someone else at every opportunity. I want to spend time with my children, they enjoy going to Asda or wherever and it allows us to spend time together. I get precious little time with them as it is with working shifts.

They go to school and nursery when I am off during the week and I work many weekends.

im not having a go margaret, but i am on my own. i usually do my shopping when my lad is at school but with him being off i have to take him. if i lived near my family or had any friends willing to look after him then i would but thats not possible for everyone.
