I appreciate that but essentially all the fund raising was being done off site - we were just trying to attract new and old members to visit the site within a 24 hour period.

I can sort of see this but surely he's got the mods in place to ok things in his absence. Plus, as it is a community site and this is a community activity I'm afraid I can't really see the issue.

Fair enough but all we were recommending was that people visit the site - surely publicity for the site is a good thing.

We were trying to think our way around this but don't think it should be a barrier.
Having said all that - it's not my decision and if you say no then it's a no.

I think you need to realise that, as good and worthy you may think 'Children in need' is, if Roy allows one charity, at what point and with which charity does he draw the line when the members become too frightened to come on because they are expected to dig deep whenever they do. ('Children in need' has plenty of places where payment can be paid I'm sure a link in your signature to some such would be allowed without being too intrusive).

There isn't a real issue Mick told you what is going on and even if he could make decisions while Roy is away he is trusted by Roy to respect his (Roys), decisions.

Of course publicity is good for the site, but as Mick has already explained, sending e-mails in this fashion is spamming.

No need to think of ways around it if people want to contribute to 'Children in need' it would be difficult not to find a way to pay in any form.
Having said all that - it's not my decision and if you say no then it's a no.
No, and it wasn't Mick's or any of the mods decisions so why put pressure on them when it isn't needed? Mick gave you the answers now go work hard for 'Children in need' and good luck in your fund raising.

Re: Children In Need
How about - coming up with a non-AccyWeb activity or thingummy of some kind which could be done elsewhere either online or in RL and just posting a thread in the "What's On" type forum area to attract people's attention to it? Then it's not an AccyWeb sponsored charity but could get something going?
Now you put it into perspective I can understand how it could get off-putting if every charity under the sun was supported by AccyWeb. I was once on a forum where the mods were dong sponsored this that and the others and you sort of felt obliged to send them money which did put members on the spot, especially as some were counting the pennies, and you can't start allowing some and not others or people will get peeved. £2 isn't much but £2 every other week (or more) can soon mount up.

Re: Children In Need
Sounds ok in theory Willow but my intention was to bring in new accywebbers with the publicity, which I'm sorry Less if I'm wrong but I thought that could only be a good thing.
No one would be 'made' to donate. Children In Need, to me, is the one time of year were people do silly things for a charity. Hopefully the press would have run a story on the lines of, some accywebbers doing a 24 hour stint on the website do pop on and have a look what they are up to. There'd be no big Bob Geldof type 'GIVE US YOUR F****ING MONEY' thing going on. There would be a link to donate if they wanted to. In the process of popping on to see what we were up to the new members would hopefully read a few threads on the local issues and want to come bck on a regular basis.

Tinks please don't get narked, I was not criticising the idea, Mick had posted an explanation Gayle broke it down and I thought that deserved further comment.
No-one can criticise the idea or the fact that it was suggested for the best of all intentions, but the mods gave you their answer and reasons for them, no doubt when Roy gets back you can ask him and he will give you a better explanation than anyone else can.
As I have already said, 'good luck with your fund raising' . Perhaps the suggestion Willow has come up with deserves further thought?

Re: Children In Need
It's ok Less I'm not getting narked. I've had a quick chat with Mick and he's explained Roy is out of the country. I agree nothing can be done without Roy's backing so it's out of the question this year.
It's just a shame I didnt think of it earlier.
The only thing with Willows idea is that it's not getting people onto accyweb to have a look at how we are getting on. There's numerous things we could do as a group, pram race, BUNGEE JUMP (suggested by MICK ) but accyweb wouldn't get the maximum publicity it could have.

Yeah right, there's no way you'd get me dangling from super strength knicker elastic! But If it only cost a pound every time I pushed Mick off the platform..........
Or perhaps we could have a sponsored human cannon ball?
Oh, Mick, Your overalls with the pretty rhinestones on them have arrived!

Me neither! I wouldn't object to getting a push as long as it's in one of these
