Suppose if you like them that's all that matters. Don't eat chips all that often, would probably go for the oven ones if I did!!

Funny what you remember when you read something, I did that once got up to get my daughter ready for school, lit the grill or so I thought. When I came back into the kitchen I lit the gas under the kettle and the force of the blast threw me across the kitchen. Just goes to show you can never be to careful

Re: Chip Pans Are Dangerous
the ones that go on the oven should be banned, they are the ones that are dangerous, you could easily forget to turn it off, wether your drunk or not! I recommend a electric one

This morning a fire chief was advocating that all chip pans should be banned. His opinion was based on the fact that far too many callouts were to a chip pan fire.
So by his reckoning his next target has to be cars, motorbikes, vans and lorries because they kill and maim more people.
It is time that these jumped up officials just did their job and stopped trying to tell us how to lead our lives.

So its only drunken people who operate chip pans?

No! The fire chief was using the drunk coming home and feeling hungry as an example to prove his claim that chip pans are dangerous.

Well that nonsense. Noone after a good night on the lash comes home and puts the chip pan on, they order a kebab with extra chilli sauceand a can of coke that doesnt get drunk till 3 days later.

Re: Chip Pans Are Dangerous
I don't suppose that it has ever occured to the "Fire Chief" that his job and pension are largely dependent on people forgetting to monitor their chip pans; if there were no fires what need would we have for firemen?

Re: Chip Pans Are Dangerous
Anything can be dangerous if the person using it isn't in full control of their faculties. Even a deep fat fryer could be dangerous if the person using it knocked it off the surface when full of hot fat. The fire chief is talking rubbish.

Yes accidents do happen when no drink is involved, I think he had a good point in a way if we all used deep fat fryers the element of danger from their point of view must be reduced because anybody can get waylaid and forget about a chip pan. A deep fat fryer will switch itself off whereas a chip pan fire could and has been fatal.

What were you doing trying to move a chip pan full of hot fat? That is just asking for trouble.
My chip pan has a lid and when the chips are cooked and put onto my plate I put the lid in place, make doubly sure that the gas has been turned OFF FULLY and go and enjoy my chips. I don’t even think about moving the chip pan until the next morning when the beef dripping or lard has solidified.
I’ve never had a chip pan problem in over 50 years.

So have cars, motor bikes, vans and lorries. Lets not forget aeroplanes, trains and even ships. Ladders spring to mind.
This jumped up fire chief is just poking his nose into people’s lives.
