Re: Christmas approaches.

I know, I know, it is still only coming to the end of Oct but who's ready for Christmas?

Perhaps (like me) you've started to buy presents and started planning for that wretched Christian holiday that we all have forced upon us year after year
Yes, it's nearly that time of year when you can't turn on your tv or go into a shop without being reminded of it...

...I haven't seen the coco-cola truck on TV yet,but "holidays are coming"

I'm all sorted. Presents bought so no last minute running around. As for "that wretched Christian holiday", wow, the Bah Humbug season has started early. Cheer up!

I am sure I have said this before Jason.....no one, absolutely no one forces you to celebrate this Christian holiday. It is another day. So OK, the shops(in the main)are shut....And there may be no buses or trains running.....that is not much different to other bank holidays with little or no,religious significance.
There are people who do enjoy this celebration who are not Christians, many people who, proclaim Christianity to be at their roots give the religion only a passing nod.
If you really do not want to celebrate it, then the solution is in your hands.
Let all your family and friends know well in advance, that you will no longer be celebrating Christmas....Then go and offer your services as a volunteer to some charitable organisation that makes the festive season a little more comfortable(for just one day) to those far less fortunate than yourself who would dearly like to celebrate the day....or go to work(as I did for some thirty years)as a volunteer on one of the wards at our local hospital. I am sure they will value your services to get their elderly and infirm patients fed and watered.

But for goodness sake, do not come here every year and moan. It really is quite tiresome

Nice try, but I'm not biting, the bold highlighted part of your sentence gives you away fella, bet you'll be organising the secret santa where you work & bringing in mince pies.

Oh no, at least a month of having to endure all those played to death Christmas records in supermarkets and stores around the land - songs that were once great are now grating the earholes...

Re: Christmas approaches.

This year,Mrs E is going to the in laws so,I think I'm going to indulged in a day of doing sod all.Of course, like any other day,Christmas day is whatever you want to make of it.

I won't bang on about the consumerism or religion side of Christmas this year because,as you correctly pointed out,it's "tiresome".

This year I'll probably wake up at about 5am,and with no pressing urgency to move,I'll wish Mrs E Merry Chrimbo and go back to sleep till about 9am.
When I do decide to rise from my pit,I'll probably just watch the television....and if that gets boring I might switch it on.

I know, especially for those who have nobody, this time of year can bring with it a sense sadness and loneliness.
But,perhaps, spending Christmas alone isn't a bad thing? I spend most of my life being forced to converse with folk I have no wish to talk to and on top of that there's no ruddy room on public transport around Crimbo so I have folk in my personal space....for me spending Christmas Day alone (uninterrupted by other pesky humans) is a present money can't buy you.....

...Bah Humbug

Re: Christmas approaches.

So, you DID find something positive about Christmas Day after all.
Your choice to be alone is just that....Your choice.
Many folk spend most of their time alone.....and ARE lonely. I like my own company but there are times when the company of someone you have connections with, is good for your health.
As for the crowds at Christmas, you can be in a crowd and still be lonely.....because no one acknowledges you, so it is good to talk to folk....even if you don't know them.

When I go out and about on the buses I nearly always meet older folk(I know I am one of them) and I frequently start up a conversation. It is part of the enjoyment of being out and about.
Anyway Jason, may I be the first one to wish you a peaceful Christmas of your own making, doing whatever pleases you.

I'm going to make this the best Christmas I've had for a few years.
And I'm sure it will be.
Some of you know why.
