Christmas.......The Spanish Way.....

It's well different from the way we know it. The children only receive a small gift on Christmas Day and have to wait until the sixth of January for their main presents.

The Three Kings turn up on camels and give out the presents to the kiddies. The Kings have to meet a certain criteria....one black, one young and one older. We watch it most years and it's really wonderful.

The bars close around six in the evening on Xmas Eve and don't open until Monday.........they don't do Boxing Day.

We are having an early lunch, a few beers and will be staying home for Xmas Eve. Hopefully, we may find a bar open on Christmas Day so that we can have a few while the turkey cooks. Happy Christmas all xx

That's different ..... it sounds really nice

Do The Kings go house to house or do the kiddies go to The Kings?

Merry Christmas Junetta xxx

Re: Christmas.......The Spanish Way.....

The Kings turn up in the village on their camels and the council provide gifts for the children. It's usually held near the harbour. Each child is called out by name.

I haven't quite sorted out how the kids get their gifts from their parents but will work on it.

Happy Xmas xx

Re: Christmas.......The Spanish Way.....

Giving gifts at Epiphany makes much more sense.

Sadly for me, whose birthday is the very next day after, it would mean even more joint Christmas/birthday presents from tight relatives.

Happy Christmas to you and yours in sunny Teneriffe June. xxxxx

Seems to be a lot less commercial than ours. With all this merchindising in our faces 24/7 i think crimbo is loosing its meening. Now its how much money can companies get out of you and can they push you a little further than you want to. Pity it isnt like it was when a small pressie was a godsend and cherished.

Re: Christmas.......The Spanish Way.....

Thank you all for such nice replies x.
We went to our local for a beer or three this afternoon and when we asked for the 'la cuenta' there wasn't one.......how nice of them. I know we use the bar regularly but there was really no need to let us drink for free. Nice though, we sort of felt at home!
Christmas isn't quite the same in ex-pat land but we have bought a huge turkey. Not that I really approve....when in Rome and all that!
Anyway.........I hope you all have a lovely time, give my love to ACCY, miss it to bits x
