I have recieved a subscribers email from the Alliance for Natural Health which directs the reader to
http://www.anhcampaign.org/news/code...m_medium=email
which includes the following paragraph-
UK Petition on Codex at No 10 Downing Street
Another misinformed, but undoubtedly well-meaning, action is the petition to the UK government on Codex at No 10 Downing Street, London. You can find this petition at: Petition to: oppose the adoption of the Codex Alimentarius (WHO/UN) proposals for restriction of the presently freely available herb/vitamin/mineral food supplements. | Number10.gov.uk.
This petition indicates that Codex will cause herbal/vitamin/mineral food supplements to become ‘prescription only’. This is not the case, as Codex Alimentarius deals with all categories of food and has already ratified (in 2005) the text of an international guideline on vitamin and mineral food supplements, which is expected to be finalised—complete with maximum guideline dosages—in around 2012 or 2013. By definition, products compliant with these guidelines will be safeguarded as a category of food (i.e., food supplements) and therefore will not be categorised as medicines.
Of course the petition is only open to British citizens (yet it’s being pushed as far afield as New Zealand) and the more urgent issue is the much more imminent restrictions in Europe being imposed by provisions of European Directives and Regulations that then have a major bearing on Codex.
This indicates that my petition is misguided and misinforms, and that the European Union directive is the villian in the piece.
I write to say that it is nice to know that they consider my effort 'well meaning' and wonder why they have waited many months to clarify the confusion which they say has been rampant on the internet.
I DID write to my Member of the European Parliament, who never bothered to reply.
I have not deliberately misled, and if my effort has given the whole issue more publicity than
they had managed to date then it has done some good.
The petition will now have to be referred to the UK Health ministry as petition of that size must.
The Alliance for National Health have an active campaign ongoing in Europe and I have known that since before I began the petition
I hope that my petition has raised awareness in the UK, which will enable persons to seek for, and decide which, set of information to believe
(even though none of the versions are good news)
I continue to stockpile the supplements essential to my survival, because I have little confidence in the success of the campaign
It is interesting to note that the rate at which signatures have been added has increased dramatically in the past week
.....so public awareness is happening.......at last!
Ps - reached New Zealand WOW - I have never been further south than Malta in my lifetime
