common sense or a back pocket job ?

politicians in scotland have decided instead of all goverment run buildings having local contracts theyare to be supplied by the same energy company so they can negotiate cheaper bills ..is this common sense or a back pocket job?personally i dont care if it is a back pocket job if it saves money.it will probably save on paperwork red-tape and reduce bills..i wonder if the goverment will do it in england as well.and while they are at it re-nationalize the energy companies..

Re: common sense or a back pocket job ?

Interesting, whilst I can see how this could save money and how could also lead to (allegations) of bribes I can also see how it could be transfered to other commodities and services leaving only the multi nationals able to tender for government work.

Personally I think councils and government should be open to everyone and ideally they should purchase their supplies local therefor keeping monely withing the local community

That is what happens polly, you never really see supermarkets, petrol stations, or utility companies undercut each other to any real degree, and all make massive profits, even the government body (eaga) set up to distribute central heating grants have a company, it was supposed to do 20% maximum of the grant work, they actually do around 40%, Iguana do 40% (came from nowhere to get that work), leaving 20% for any other heating companies, iguana and warmfront insist they are not linked, Mmmm!

Only the other week supermarkets started cutting petrol prices, with others following suit with greater cuts.

Too little imo andrew, a bit like british gas offering fixed rates just before the rate went down, and they knew they were going down!

Re: common sense or a back pocket job ?

another reason why utilities in this country should be nationalized it may be a monopoly but at least it would cut down on incentives[bribes] for politicians mates start their own companies and mps making a packet on inside information.it would save billions in wasted money putting contracts out to tender....waste you wouldnt believe it....
