Re: Condoms.
I was a fan of Thatcher, though I have to agree with you on the messsage that put accross. I can remember the falling grave stone adds very well.
It seems to me that they should try and do the same again. I feel that there is no harm in repeating a message if it is still as valid today as it was then, or rather in this case taking the spread of this disease into consideration I am sure the message must be even more valid!

Off thread I know, but why were you a fan?
You were only seven when she became Prime Minister, and eighteen when the Tories booted her out?

I agree and I would love to see some huge campaigns up and running, as would some of my acquaintances who specialise within the field of sexual health. As previously mentioned though, the influx that these services would receive would be massive. They have been so underfunded for so long that the services would not cope. More money has been allocated to sexual health over the last 5 years, but it is way too little, way too late...

Re: Condoms.
I can remember Thatcher of course and the subsequent Tory governments!
I know that by the end they were very un popular with many of the electorate.
However, I still feel she was hard done by, particularly when compared to the politicians of today!
I believe (perhaps wrongly, it is only as I percieve her) that she always did what she did and stuck to what she did because "she" beleived that what she was doing was right! She stuck to what she considered her parties principles to be.
Today, you have a Labour government that has abandoned its routes in order to win votes! They have as a consequence of this become more conservative than the tories though for all the wrong reasons. Surely a Labour Party in opposition standing for its principles is better than one in Government that does not?
At least with Thatcher she stood for what she believed in, whearas today politicians stand for what will get them the most votes!
As a consequence of this the two main parties on the whole seem to occupy the centre right with nothing to choose between the two. Except of course for their personalities (if indeed you could call them that!)

Sounds like Tony Blair.
Perhaps that's why they apparently have such a good personal relationship.

Hmmm though that may be due to the fact that Thatcher has since lost the plot and Blair will do anything that gets votes (from the traditional tories in this case) or to appease the Yanks!

Good chance you are correct on all accounts. And still nothing will get done while he is prancy about with an ego the size of the Pacific Ocean.

Re: Condoms.
Not so sure, I think his first commons defeat is the beggining of the end, and when Brown takes over (as he will) then that will be the beggining of the end of this Labour government!

Re: Condoms.
blaming schools for not educating kids is all well and good, i didnt get much in the way of sex ed either but surely parents should take some responsibility for educating their children in the practises of safe sex i know mine did and surely the rest of the responsibility should rest with the kids themselves their is enogh talk of stds and teenage pregnancy in the media that a bit of common sense on their parts wouldn't go amiss

Re: Condoms.
Getting rid of peer pressure and some of the material teens are reading nowadays would help a little. Ironic that some teens who fall pregnent end up with no family support because of what happened. I wonder how many of these kind of families give no sex education to these kids?

Re: Condoms.
I have had to dig up this thread for one very good reason......
I am so excited!!!!!!!!!
Hot news of the day at Uni..... The government have agreed to run another televised HIV campaign (similar to the one in the 80's). After years of putting it off due to underfunding they have realised that it is false economy and prevention is better than treatment...
I also believe that they aim to try to use David Beckham and Robbie Williams in these ads...

That make alot of sense - a right pair of *******.
On a more serious note, I read over the weekend that a certain drug company has now developed a viagra-effect gel. The active ingrediant is the same as in the tablet, except its not taken as per the tablet. (I won't say internally or orally). Durex are in partnership to develop a condom containing a thin layer of this gel. I suppose it beats Chicken Vindaloo flavour.
