Phew.
I bet Moley's relieved to read that.

So is everybody fully supportive of Peter Britcliffe and his running of the council? Would they have been more happy to see him as candidate than Janet Storey?
I ask out of curiosity rather than trying to have a political dig.

Well he's been leader since we took control, and seen off about 4 or 5 labour counterparts, and why do you think there is so much animosity towards CCO

I take your point, John, but do Tory supporters truly believe he is the best man for the job or simply the best available option?

Re: Conservative Parliamentary Selection
I have respect for you John but seen off? Not sure when Peter became Leader but guess 1992?
George Slynn. Peter Britcliffe was Leader when Tories won election after election
Someone briefly ICQR
Ian Ormerod. Ian won an election against Peter and then retired due to serious ill health
Jean Battle. Had to step down to take cabinet position at LCC
David Myles. Lost an internal vote. Nothing to do with Tories.
Myself. Still Leader.

The people's favourite.
(Just as long as they aren't the people at Conservative Central Office, or the people in the constituency of Hyndburn, as witnessed by two General Election defeats.)

Re: Conservative Parliamentary Selection
I wonder if John Moss will still post, and give his views on local issues, here in Hyndburn?
He seemed nice, and full of ideas and enthusiasm.

O.K. it's official, a Candidate has been chosen, there is nothing left to see in this thread, please, move along there, I'm sure there are other threads that need your attention, don't look at me like that sonny Jim or I'll book you for loitering.
"Z victor One to V.D., (well it always sounded like that on our telly), can we have some horses brought in to clear the area?, over...

If there's a hung parliament, with no over all majority, we might have the exciting prospect of another General Election, sooner, rather than later.
For the sake of not having too many threads on the same subject, perhaps we should keep this open...just in case there's another list imposed from those who know best.

He certainly didn't "see" my Uncle Ian Ormerod off, Ian was the hardest working Mayor this Borough has ever seen and Britcliffe's daft shenanigans certainly contributed to his stroke, from which he is thankfully recovered. If Mr Britcliffe is at all proud of his actions at that time he deserves to be pitied more than scorned.
As an aside to this I read one of the Rev Kev's vile missives in the Telegraph about a week ago where he was banging on about the "unholiness" of same sex marriages, if I ever needed any proof as to what a narrow minded bigot this man is , it was there , writ large. I know lots of same sex couples, if they had entered into heterosexual marriages these would inevitably have broken down leaving a trail of domestic debris. Homosexuality is not a disease to be cured by marriage, Kev, it's a lifestyle choice, and the sooner you open your eyes to the real world the better it will be for all of us.
( By the way, he has a snowball in hells chance of getting in.)

In my experience those so obsessed about the bedroom habits of others, particularly male homosexuals, are usually driven by a deep seated fear that really they want it up 'em. To paraphrase Corporal Jones, from Dad's Army.
Odious man.
Who, if there is a God, won't be meeting up with Him when he eventually snuffs it.
He'll be down in the overheated, firey, bargain basement, forced to dance to Donna Summer records for all eternity, with a load of sweaty sinners.
