Was waiting for that lol!

It's the same Bob Whatmough (or was it Whatmore?) that had the band back then, and for many years after I believe. He got quite friendly with my mum and dad, so we sometimes went into the living premises. Remember him having a trombone in the bathroom and trying to play it.

Re: Corner shop 'time capsule'

The Shop is indeed on Burnley Road opposite the old Peel Park Ground and a couple of blocks up from Accrington Garages. My daughter recalls going in there when she was a pupil at Peel Park School some 30-years ago. She laughingly stated that the choice of confectionary was confined to half a dozen chocolate bars and a couple of jars containg boiled sweets.

Re: Corner shop 'time capsule'

I remember going into the shop when it was open. The door had a sneck. Not many shop doors like that. It seemed very quaint and old fashioned even back then. So although it may look like it hasn't been touched for over 40 years that's probably because even when it was open it was 20 years out of date!

Reminded me of Rileys herbalist on Union Road in Ossy many moons ago, can still picture the old girl dishing out the dandelion and burdock and the licorice stick.

Sounds like it was a 'local shop, for local people'.

Re: Corner shop 'time capsule'

It is definitely less than 30 years since it closed. I used to go in when I was 13-14 because they sold single fags.... It was a popular place to go for 'singles' with teenagers, that would make it about 1982 when I last went in. Great to see it on the news though.
