Cashman is right about private health insurance. You can pay into BUPA for years, but as soon as you come down with something chronic that's expensive to treat ie, cancer, HIV.... They don't want you anymore and will not treat you. Makes you think that there is no point joining doesn't it.[/QUOTE] i wonder how many people who pay "private" are aware/told, before they start parting with their hard earned money? the case i was refering to was about 20 years ago,and it still makes my blood boil.

I was not aware of this and as a result pulling out is being given serious consideration.

Not a problem cashy it means that when information like this is made available people can have a better understanding of what they will and wont receive. I am having a major rethink and will wiegh up the pro's and cons as my daughter is on it as well I have to be certain of what they would pay for if she unfortunately fel ill and needed urgent treatment.

Its a good way and if benifits can be made beforehand negates the need for "if in hindsight I knew then what I do now then........." A lesson learned and I will pay particular attention to small print on everything and not just go on trusting them.

Re: cost effective

Whichever scheme you are with, always check the small print before parting with cash. I know that BUPA are very good when it comes to you needing to have an operation with a long NHS waiting time, so Varicose veins, joint repalcements etc will be done.

What you are looking for is how they treat chronic illness (illnesses which become progressively worse over time). These illnesses require long term treatment and are expensive to treat. They will also consider pre-existing conditions and medical results, so if you have had a dodgy smear test for example, then develop cervical cancer, they may claim that it was a pre-existing condition....

There have even been incidences where GPs who are fundholding refusing to take patients with some chronic illnesses, because they are too expensive....

It is the only certainty in life.........that one day we will die, in fact we begin the process of dying as soon as we're born.

If you ever want a steady job where redundancy is not an option funeral services are it.....
