Incidentally (new paragraph, and correctly so,) part of my job for the last 23 years or so has been to edit articles (and indeed write them) for various magazines. I have been involved in publishing for longer than I care to remember and frankly to join a new forum and be criticised for my ability to write is not a good introduction.

For heaven's sake, if you had taken the trouble to read my post again you would have noticed that I was not at all condemnatory, quite the opposite, in fact I agreed with much of what you wrote.
I did not mention grammar or spelling or style, or accuracy or your ability to write, but I will now - you have mis-spelt "grammatically" in this new post. All I was asking for was a few line breaks - perhaps not paragraphs, but a bit of white space to break up the text. Take a look back at your post and tell me if it does not appear on the screen as a solid mass of text with long lines which can be difficult to follow from one to the next.
By the way I too was involved in publishing as an editor/proofreader and writer for some years, but the last thing I want is to get involved in any sort of back biting about such matters. I welcome you as a forum member, which I would have thought was obvious from the first few words of my previous posts, but my comment/request about your post still stands.

He would then need to stand for election as the leader of the party (and of course win).

Then again he might be lucky and the "powers that be" might just decide he's the man for the job and by-pass all that -rather like they did here in Italy when they put Mario Monti in as PM

True - you don't have to be an MP to be PM. Alec Douglas Home wasn't, though he became one.

Doubt very much if you'd get away with that today susie, politics is a far nastier game now than it was in those days, Douglas Home was in the house of Lords though, Boris is in neither and would have to win a seat somewhere and it would have to be a safe seat, and who in their right mind is going to give up a lifelong ticket on the gravy train in a safe seat so that Boris can fill his boots

No reason why they couldn't make Boris a life peer like they did with the useless Baroness Warsi, after the electorate of Deswbury rejected her and Cameron was desperate to add her to his cabinet to boost his PC credentials. Let's face it, the Tories, like Labour and the LibDems have a total contempt for democracy when it suits them.

There's a convention that the PM should not be a member of the Lords. Hence Alec D-H gave up his peerage in order to be PM.

A convention's not a law. Wouldn't put anything past 'em!

Re: Could Boris be the next Prime Minister?
There is nothing to stop Boris becoming PM without being an MP but it would not happen any more than the Queen refusing to sign an act of parliament. She could refuse but the constitutional crisis that would follow would possibly bring about the downfall of the royal family. Conventions are everything in this country whether we like it or not.
By the way (new paragraph for Susie123) the "mis-spelling" of grammatically was a typo done at about 2 in the morning, sorry.

Re: Could Boris be the next Prime Minister?
Boris has said in his own words - "There is more chance of finding Elvis on Mars than me becoming the PM!" So there you have it.

Now it's funny he should have said that - I think he might have been hedging his bets
Statue of Elvis on Mars?
