Re: Council Houses
Most elderly people really appreciate council houses. The areas where those type of house are (bungalows with the railings outside) type house are worth the money and let elderly people keep their independance.
Its a general misconception by some adults aswell that have a good job and education and a house in a nice expensive area that council house dwellers just have no education or jobs. Its not just students who make mistakes with conceptions like that, alot of the time its their parents who have given them these ideas.

Re: Council Houses
My mum is currently trying to escape from her 'owned for 54 years' house into council accomodation up near me so I can care for her more easily. We've been told the waiting list is > 70 years. The reason she needs to move are manyfold but one of the biggest is the number of yobs that have moved into what was a nice area, with music blaring till 3-4 am, drinking and the noise/behaviours that that brings etc.

That's true, private landlords are more like modern day highwaymen

Re: Council Houses
i think council houses are becoming more desirable than a lot of private landlord houses councils are kicking more and more people off the estates and they then end up renting wich then wrecks streets that were once nice and private

Re: Council Houses
Some of the private landlords are sharks too. They don't take maintenance seriously and expect top rate of rent for some decrepit old ruin.

That sounds like my mums landlord. Waste of space she is too. They always try to send out their friends as plumbers and stuff to do maintenance checks on the boiler we stopped letting them in.

Re: Council Houses
well i must agree there are teenager,s are haveing children nower days and this is why i think the house,s are hard to get and you are put on a long waiting list for them so ,i think this is why they are trying to put more home,s up as fast as they can.

it'd make sense to make flats though for single mothers with a baby. why waste space building houses when they could build a massive block of flats in accy for single mums with babies.

Re: Council Houses
Flats are not suitable for housing anyone with young children-
1- how do you get a pram/pushchair up a stairwell when the lift breaks down
2- children and balconies/high windows are hazardous
3- babies cry, naturally, and flat dwellers need to take care with noise levels.
