Crispy fried Geese anyone?

BBC NEWS | Americas | Airbus crashes in New York river

I always thought airports had them bird scarer things that kept the birds away .....

At least no one was killed in the accident ... so lucky that way. But i wouldnt have liked to have been on it.

Saw the footage on the 10pm news thankfully the pilot got the plane down with no fatalities all credit to him

Then he walked up and down the aisle twice to make sure no-one was missed, before getting off himself.

The plan had left the airport space before it hit the geese Jen. These planes can't half cover some ground in three minutes

Re: Crispy fried Geese anyone?

From a fellow professional Pilot, my hats off the the entire crew on board that day.

I cannot wait to read the full report about what happened, by the NTSB, and how the crew dealt with it.

Most companies Standard operating Procedures, state that in the event of an evacuation the Captain must walk up and down the cabin to make sure there is no one left. In a sinking airplane, that takes a lot and all credit to Captain Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III for doing that. I don't know if i could have.

Also, the fact that ditching is not practised in any airline just goes to show how good this pilot was, also that it is very rare, so don't worry.

Just a side note, I am told that bird stike in the engine normally smells like fried chicken.

Happy flying

Re: Crispy fried Geese anyone?

Someone was talking to me about their great grandad or something like that in one of the wars, and when they shot planes down the pilots obviously burned inside and apparently they smelled very tasty and the soldiers mouths would water.

Kind of off topic but the burning geese reminded me of it.

As well as showing great pilot skill, it also shows how well designed and built the aircraft are these days to withstand this type of landing. But would'nt you think that with all the technology we have available, we would now be able to devise a means of protecting the engines from birds flying/being sucked into them.

You know how science fact sometimes follows science fiction - 'shields up, Scottie',
or do without planes- 'beam me up, Scottie'

I don't think that is possible. The only thing able to avoid fans is Sylvester Stallone
