These beasties are acquired tastes, like Spugs says elsewhere "The Marmite effect" is in place, I do like an Islay but it's hard to choose, in Germany Ardbeg is more popular as it isn't as heavy as Laphroaig, but I admit I do enjoy a dram of Lpg quarter cask, you definitely know you've been drinking that even an hour later, more a winter warmer that.

For general nips, Highland Park 18, or one of the Macallans.

Glenmorangie - Western Isles varieties are too smokey for my taste.
Bit of useful information - The White Mouse pub on the IoW has 365 varieties and a check sheet for ticking them off as you try them.

So whatever is planned and brought forth we will all suffer to some extent. The cuts when made to balance the books are going to be painful with job losses as a result. The burning question is "How long will it take to be back in the black?" Everyone is going to need to tighten their belts and might mean extreme pain for a countrywide gain. I know up here they are working on it and it will be as popular as a rabbit infestation in your veg patch.

The highest cost is trying to catch the little buggers as they run around the side of the hill. An expensive labour intensive way to get food. In a way a bit like the carry on of some banks that along with some countries helped get us in this mess.

As for subsidies would the tax paying powers we have up here be used to cushion the blow? Me personally wouldnt mind a small hike if it helped protect services like the NHS some thing that is needed by all.

Sorry, don't like whisky either.
Haggis followed by a nice glass of ten year old malt will change your mind Margaret, the only problem with haggis is you have to be careful, as the Scots aren't very good at cleaning the beast and lead shot often gets suck between the teeth

I have 2 bottles of Spey in special millennium presentation boxes(untouched) I keep saying I'm going to crack one open but have never got round to it

Can never find it all I blame the blunderbus they use as we are such a backward nation.

Wont be long before what we like becomes too expensive and the days of the late forties return. Then this kind of cheap wholesome food will be on all tables. We are entering unknown times now with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Uncork one but save the other. I fine whiskey should always be enjoyed and savoured just the same as if it was a fine wine.
