Defeating The Object??

Don't know if anyone else has heard about these "Live Earth" gigs to highlight globalwarming.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6367515.stm

8 super gigs telling all about globalwarming, now someone please tell me is the fact that how much machinary, transport etc to get all the artists and their equipment let alone the going on 1 million people travelling to the gigs by cars, buses, planes and so on being taken into account! I like a good gig as much as the next person but I just think that these ones are kind of defeating the object!!

What does everyone else think?

There will also be a concert in Antarctica. Bet that one's a sell-out! Apparently they claim these concerts will be 'carbon neutral' whatever that means.

Re: Defeating The Object??

Carbon neutral means one of 2 things, either, all teh resources are carbon friendly e.g. ellecy from wind farms etc OR (and I reckon its this) that money from the concert will be used to buy 'carbon credits' which ia s method by which large firms can 'sell' their entitlements to carbon based energy e.g. Barclays recently signed a massive contract with EDF to buy their electricity from renewable sources only. so their carbon footprint is actually classed as negative, they could(if they want) sell this credit to people who can't be bothered to be environmentally friendly(I'm not saying Barclays does, I don't actually know)
