Desert Island Discs
I may be alone among Accywebbers but Sunday mornings for me involve cooked breakfast and doing my accounts whilst listening to The Archers omnibus and Desert Island Discs but this morning's edition has truly typified any programme featuring a prominent politician.
I can't honestly see many of the tunes selected being anywhere near Nick Clegg's record collection, what a cheap attempt to appeal to a cross-section of society. Very disappointed with the man, my respect for him diminishes by the day.

Re: Desert Island Discs
Where are the Liberal Democrats going under the leadership of Nick Clegg? Yes, they are part of the coalition government, and as such can claim they are "in power".
But just how much power do they actually wield in the coalition? There isn't much in the Chancellor's spending cuts that wouldn't have been there if the Conservatives had overall control, apart maybe from the "Green Bank" (but what is that in reality?).
Clegg can bang on about working in the national interest. But if all that means is helping the Conservatives implement Conservative policies, then what is he achieving for the Liberal Democrat movement?
He should be alarmed that the majority of the great British public feel the budget is unfair in that it impacts too harshly on the lower paid. That might not be a problem for Conservative voters, but it will horrify grass roots Liberal Democrat supporters.
And it will come back to haunt him in the long run.

Re: Desert Island Discs
To be honest Cashy I lost interest halfway through when I realised I was listening to a party political broadcast.
The 'choices' ranged from a classical piece (to appeal to the upper classes) right through to the theme tune from one of the most popular programmes on children's television (in wit da kidz).
The only remotely plausible record was 'Life on Mars' by David Bowie.

Re: Desert Island Discs
Hmmm. Bowie. Nick Clegg has gone up in my estimation. thats twice in one day. The first hike in popularity came with this mornings revelation that he is partial to a secret smoke. Gotta love someone who can admit that nowadays.

Re: Desert Island Discs
I was once played a tape of former host, Sue Lawley, having hanky-panky in a cupboard at Central Television, before she found fame on Nationwide.
Shockingly she had a noticable Brummy twang.
It wouldn't be one of my choices, by the way.
I'll stick with Everyone's a Winner.

Could we have a link to the video?
For artistic reasons of course, (for some reason I can't seem to get a grant to buy this stuff).

I think to be fair you should list your own 8 records of choice.

Thank goodness, I've been risking my eyesight for forty odd years now, I think I can risk going deaf instead!
