Didn't take long
As some may (or may not know) for some unknown reason us lucky folks in sunny Huncoat (Village that is) are getting a new pharmacy. Now don't get me started on this rant.
Well it is due to open on Monday and today when I went to the postbox I noticed they were stocking up the shelves in readiness.
Well my partner, on his way home from work, called at the shop to get some milk and guess what? Its been burgled already!
Well I guess it wouldn't take long, after all it is only a house converted into a shop, there is no proper roller shutter door and no camera installed. Apparently the Police were at the shop because he has CCTV installed.
Now I can't personally see the point of this pharmacy. If I need a prescription I go into town. If I run out of shampoo/paracetamol/calpol, I go to the shop.
They close down the Post Office and then open a pharmacy. yes I know they are two different businesses in two different (slightly different locations, about 5 doors away from each other) but if a PO can't survive, what hope does a chemist have?
Ok rant over. Thank you for reading.

Re: Didn't take long
Because you have to be sick to live in Huncoat so they know they're on to a good thing.

Re: Didn't take long
Could it not be helpful for elderly people and disabled people who may struggle to get into town?
Just a thought.
And we aren't all scum people!
We live in Huncoat, right at the top near Burnley Road and have never had a problem the 8 years i've lived here.

Many chemists provide a free prescription delivery service and you don't have to be housebound to get it.
So I can't see that this pharmacy will survive even 1 year of trading.

Quite right Margaret, I've had mine delivered since I stoped driving 13 years ago, can't think that the busness will last that long without the burglaries

How will burglaries help to keep it open?

Being cynical, I would suggest that they claim that more stuff went missing than did.
But then - insurance fraud is not the way to run a business and I am NOT suggesting that the owners have done or will do that.

Re: Didn't take long
Could do quite well, particularly if near to a doctor's surgery. Only one down here in Clayton, and always busy with people carrying prescriptions, and buying other items whilst in there.
Rotten luck though re. the burglary...

Re: Didn't take long
Is there a doctor in Huncoat? If so then I see the point. We had a pharmacy in Ormerod Street but it closed down ages aho.
I went to the doctor last week - Accrington Pals - and took my two prescriptions to the pharmacy there. They couldn't give me either. Told me that one was no longer available and that the other would have to be ordered and they didn't know how long it would take.
I took them both back upstairs to the reception, told her my problem. She made a few phone calls and ascertained that Lloyds in Peel Street had the 'totally unavailable' item currently in stock and could get me the other one by the following morning! Why is the pharmacy within the medical centre so inefficient in comparison to a town centre pharmacy?

Re: Didn't take long
when i went there the other day (PALS) they told me in the chemistthat they were just settling in and werenmt fully stocked yet, i wanted something simple (that would usually have been on display)and they had to get it out of a cupboard for me. I think it will get better once they are settled.

Re: Didn't take long
Not having it in stock due to relocating I can understand. It was telling me point blank that one item was unavailable because it was no longer being produced which I find hard to accept. When I took my prescriptions back upstairs to discuss with the receptionist what I should do, the nurse who had seen me along with the doctor was passing through and I told her that I couldn't get the tablets as they were no longer being produced and she said rubbish as they have a lot of patients on the same repeat prescription! Now giving me false information in the pharmacy is just not acceptable. I was extremely disappointed in that.

I sometimes use a pharmacy next door to my doctor.
It is quite amazing how long they take to dispense a prescription, even if you are the only one waiting.
I am convinced that they deliberately go slow, so that you will be tempted to browse and buy off their shelves out of sheer boredom.
