Re: Dire Straights

It's no secret that Government borrowing is at a high....the differnce is that a Labour Government will borrow and spend in an attempt to keep people in jobs and for the upkeep of public services.... whilst the Tory remedy is to do nothing ..apart form tax cuts to the already well off.

Re: Dire Straights

Why does every Labour government leave office with unemployment higher than when it went in then? Good intentions but they don't have a clue how to run the country.

I doubt your figures are correct... but what is your idea of running an economy... 3.5 million unemployed? people working for as little as 50p an hour?..mortgage rates ar 17%? cuts in NHS funding?..."get on yer bike" if it's not hurting it's not working (Norman Lamont)..I remember the 80's... no thanks!

I'm sure you would doubt them Mancie, living in that dream world. The hard truth is that there is no magic wand to wave over the economy to make it all better again. Whoever you lend your vote to at the next election, there's going to be no quick fix. It took a long time to turn our country around from being the sick man of Europe, but they did it. This current government inherited a rock solid economy, it was of course squandered. Investment has wasted on a grand scale and we're up to our necks in debt.

I wouldn't call the arson to put out the fire.

The dream world where you believe "Every Labour government has left office with unemployment higher than when it went in" is not true.

There's that fact but even look today. We've had 12 years of Labour and unemployment is going to peak at some 3+million. Over a government unemployment should get lower if they're a good government, if it's getting higher and higher outside of regular small fluctuations they're doing something wrong and we need a change. At this rate services like the NHS will have no money at all to be invested in them as there will be nobodies income to tax!

Re: Dire Straights

Ever Labour Government in history has been a mitigated disaster, I never thought things cold ever get worse than it was in 1979, but Brown has beat that hands down, the Country is being run by a load of unelected irks drafted into the Upper House (so hated by Labour) every time here is a so called government Minister interviewed on TV its Lord this and Lord that, seems like your common-a-garden Labour MP is just voting fodder
