Do You Care?

Do You the people of accy care about your home club enough to come and surport us? or is the club just a nice gimic that you use when people ask where you come from?

Just asking because from a town the size of accy and with the surrounding areas we only get a surport of around 1200 as a standard attendence, which isnt really big enough is it!

Football is a great sport which brings the country together! So why not help the club and the town by coming to surport YOUR local side? The town would definatly get a boost from having a fotball team in the league dont you think?

What if you are like me - working on a saturday and so cant get to games and midweek games are hard work as well. People do work on saturdays and so cant get to games and to some people football isnt their first game of choice either.

Re: Do You Care?

Well John footy is in the heart where ever i am i support my home club regardless & not just at the ground, i bet if it was free you may get a lot more in attendance but unfortunately people do have commitments ie family & works etc, you seem only a youngster so maybe it doesn't apply to you yet. I really wanted to go on sat but couldnt afford it even with the voucher so had to make do with the radio coverage instead so unfair to say that we dont care even to those that football isn't the first passion.

Im proud to be from Accy!!

Re: Do You Care?

Not that I know anything about such things, but I always thought that a position in the Football League was dependent on the number of games won by a team, not the number of people who came to watch.

Hectoring people, and trying to inculcate feelings of guilt has never been a very successful way to increase gate numbers. Playing with skill, good facilities and winning, on the other hand, has always been a sure-fire crowd puller. Just a thought.

Let me throw this one back at you just a little,
Do you care about accyweb?
I have on occasion been to a few home games because I wanted to, not because it is compulsory to be seen to support the local team, you see, although I have a passing interest in football I don't consider it to be the be all and end all of life!

You however only seem interested in football, all your posts appear to be about football, strange as it may seem to you there are in fact other things in life than football, so for some of us football, is not the main concern in life, even though we can and do enjoy football!

If we the other members of accyweb said that you should support your local community by always attending other functions that occur in and around the borough and that you should take an interest in local politics you would no doubt complain that this is boring, well yes, I can see that for you perhaps such things are boring.

But attending a football match is supposed to be about enjoyment not just blindly going where daddy went before.

I never encouraged my son to attend or not attend the Stanley matches but when he is in the Country one of his greatest pleasures is to nip along and show his support.

I hope you continue to be a lover of both football, and Accrington Stanley, and that your hopes and ambitions for the team are all fulfilled.
But please don't make it a loyalty thing it will take the fun out of it for those of us that just like to come along now and then.

Re: Do You Care?

I see by looking at your profile John, that you live in Great Harwood? Just a thought why don't you watch them instead, or is it more fashionable to be seen to be following Stanley?

I do think that it's great that you are passionate about your club and that you obviously enjoy it, keep it up!

Re: Do You Care?

right less of the heckling less!!!! John is very passionate about stanley as am I as you well know and if he wants to try and drum up support then he should go for it!!! Maybe his post might just prompt someone or already has to pop down to stanley and I can see no harm in that. Yes he may have gone about it in a guilt inducing way but if those that don't want or care to go then it really isn't gonna change much.

WELL DONE TIMMINS..... and long may you continue to share your passion in stanley

I wasn't heckling I was pointing out that football although it is his passion isn't everyone's and that to support or not support the team has nothing to do with loyalty to the area, at the end of my comment I did say:-

and I really did mean it so I can't see how my expressing my opinion can have done any harm so,
get off my back!

Re: Do You Care?

We have the same problem at York, although the crowds never quite got that low on record, they weren't far off in the real world. Fortunately, they're on the up, and hopefully they'll stay that way.

If you keep your good form up, they'll start coming.

Re: Do You Care?

It's not all that long since Stanley were playing in the same division as my lot and we only get 'crowds' of around 250. Considering how far Stanley have progressed in such a relative short space of time is an absolute credit to the club, and I would like nothing better than to see them to continue onwards and upwards (especially at the expense of Morescum). Go Accy!

No its the fact i and the majority of my family are from accy just because i now live in great harwood doesnt mean that it is my home town!

To be far i accept that some people of accy cant come due to work and other comitments, but i just wanted to know why people do not come?

I honestly think stanley is one of the things that accy can still hold proud and one of the only things in accy that are improving, other than going the oposite direction

Didnt want it to turn into a slanging match but obviously you do! To be honest if i keep posting about stanley it may just become more of a prominant thing in your mind this maybe getting you to come!!!

How many accyweb members went to the great harwood game? with harwood red and garinda? I heard they all enjoyed it but dont know if they ever returned?

Anyway Stanley will keep improving on the pitch, its up to you to come and watch! Trust me ytou wont be dissapointed! :engsmil:

3rd in the league, it's practically November.

Now, I'm not saying I don't think it'll last, but maybe the people who aren't going on a regular basis are sceptical as to whether the run of form you're in will continue. If it does, and you're still in the top 5 come Christmas, New year, then maybe your "crowds" will start going up in numbers.

Fans are fickle. The people of York more than most. So, if we can get 3600 for a home game with Canvey Island, who, let's face it, we should never ever have to play again in a league fixture, then I'm sure in the future you can.

Good luck for the rest of the season, I hope you finish 2nd(obviously I hope York are going to finish first, you see;-) )
