Re: Do you think

I am assuming, from the general nature of the question, and from a couple of responses, that you are not referring to "family" in the limited sense, but in the more general sense of "community" or "nation" .... just in case I'm wrong, I'll stop here. Don't want to seem silly by answering a question that might not have been asked
If that is the case the question should have been clearer. (or reprphrased)

Blood being thicker than water usually means family over principles to me?

Re: Do you think

oh its clear enough if you open your mind then rather than boxing it into a set definition you own
Anyways now we all sort of understand the question and the language patterns

Re: Do you think

I personally could not envisage myself falling out with family but, like yourself susie, I have seen families who have, shall we say, disintegrated for one reason or another.
It takes a lot of hard work to ensure the family dynamic stays strong from all those involved. Sometimes it will take just one loose word or action for things to begin to unravel and if the bonds are not close then blood will certainly not be thicker.

So where are the perimeters of your box then? Blood and water doesn't mean country to me...and many others. As I said it's a broad question. Tell us exactly what you want?

I just looked it up in the Cambridge Dictionary Online:

dynamic Show phonetics
adjective
having a lot of ideas and enthusiasm; energetic and forceful:
She's young and dynamic and will be a great addition to the team.
We need a dynamic expansion of trade with other countries.

By the way you don't need an apostrophe in its. I'll leave you to look that up.

Re: Do you think

Re: Do you think

It was a simple question susie. I too have responded using the family as the medium due to that being the usual thing. I have never heard the term 'blood thicker than water' used in the wider community sense - unless it's a very small yorkshire village!

Why is asking questions hostile and unwelcoming? Why is asking for a precise definition of you want unwelcoming?

But the first response you recieved talked of "blood" in terms of nation, and in terms of "blood relatives". I don't think that a dynamic (if you wish to use a term which seems to be trying, with no little success, to escape from precise meaning) applies in terms of immediate family ... "nature" or "instinct" would seem to act here. But one could respond to the implied question: Do you believe in "my country right or wrong". That might not be what you are asking, hon; but the implication is definitely there.

Unless someone tries to stick the lid back on the can of worms, this could be fun eh.
