Re: Do you think
Is blood thicker than water, you do raise some questions susie. From my point of view I think I'm British first and foremost and that's all that will ever matters to me, on the personal level, I'm very strongly protective of my own, as in family, as I would think most people are, but we are now having or own values totally overran by the PC brigade, unfortunately

I don't see where the PC issue comes in Jaysay?
That's a very broad question Susie, would depend to some point on what the situation was I suppose. But if you say blood is thicker than water, and it means disregarding your own principles about something major, I would say no..

The dynamic what? Oh, I see, it's some sort of jargon. Have a go at this quiz: BBC NEWS | Magazine | Midweek quiz: Council jargon

Re: Do you think
Why on earth there should be a dynamic is beyond me. It's just a simple yes or no, depending on circumstances. What's your opinion susie?
Why do I feel like we are part of research for a thesis? Is it just me?

Re: Do you think
dynamic isn't jargon. It's just a word.
What's the problem with me using it?

Re: Do you think
Its not personal from me. It's an attempt to open up a discussion with people who may be able to offer some great points of view
Thats all. Its about reaching out
Why are you so pointedly hostile and defensive?

Re: Do you think
mine?
Oh I witness people who do turn their back on their own family.
They have many reasons, all viable to them. That's how they feel.
Then I suppose there is discussion points around culture, sex and age that may affect the closeness and loyalty.
I haven't any set response and am interested to hear, listen and learn stuff.

Re: Do you think
What is a dynamic? I've always understood dynamic to be an adjective, not a noun.

Re: Do you think
I did say 'the dynamic' that would suggest it's use as a noun.
Think I would have just looked it up by now if it was worrying me

"Dynamic" wasn't jargon, but now it is, mainly due to people like politicians, who want to sound important (like saying "at this point in time" instead of "now" ... I personally eschew obfuscation.
I am assuming, from the general nature of the question, and from a couple of responses, that you are not referring to "family" in the limited sense, but in the more general sense of "community" or "nation" .... just in case I'm wrong, I'll stop here. Don't want to seem silly by answering a question that might not have been asked
By the way, it is "my using it" not "me using it" .... forgive me; I'm having a pedantic day
