Re: does anybody here go to the hollins?
Good morning Matthew,
When I first went there as a three year old, I think it was a man called Mr. Owens. By the time I had graduated into the primary school aged five, it was Joe Walker. He also taught the nine to eleven year olds. He was an absolute stickler with regard to disciplin. I can remember him dragging one boy out from his desk by his hair to take him to the front of the class to cane him. The reason was; the boy did not have his eyes closed during morning prayers! We were caned for the slightest infraction and believe me, you gave no cheek! The other teachers there who I remember were Mrs Wilde (Wilde by name and wild by nature). She taught the seven to nine year olds and lived on Hollins Lane, somewhere across from where the school is now. She would cane the girls just as often as she would cane the boys. You didn't mess with her either. The lady who taught the infants from five to seven was Miss Burton and my memories of her are all good, she seemed to be a very kind and patient lady.
I see from your avatar that you are a Blackburn Rovers fan. Just as a matter of interest I had a season ticket there up until coming to live in Florida.
