Don't Be Ripped Off.
got a letter from my bank last week, telling me my overdraft expires on june 15 th, n do i want a new one, blah, blah. i have had a £50 overdraft since 2001, only ever used it once, but it was when my car insurance was due n we would be in spain, (always falls then) so i thinks perhaps i should up it to £100 just in case, called into the bank n asked ( could have rang a number) cos i would rather sort face to face, the lady says yes certainly you can----BUT theres a charge of £25 Admin, i says but the letter from head office does not explain this very well, so she read it n agreed yes it doesn't, by then am not a happy bunny,i explains that some of yer customers who get these n just ring up, will not be very pleased when they check statements, n she ageed with that then says i you may lose customers as you may lose me, lady is then not a happy bunny, anyway i says stick yer overdraft i don't want it, but asked - hope there aint a charge fer cancelling? no sir there aint. reason i am writing this is have no idea if all banks are starting this game or what? but if ya get a letter about yer overdraft, make sure ya ASK EM.

Re: Don't Be Ripped Off.
I have one for £100 just in case, but have never used it, says he touching wood, or in other words scratching my head. I set mine up over the net, didn't cost me anything. This does seem a rip off cashy, but aren't banks the kings of the rip off, somehow they have to make those billions every year, comes in handy for the bubbly at the share holders meeting . Maybe its a new thing, well they have to find new ways to make money now they've been found out in all so many other ways, trouble is they don't seem to bother when they lose a customer

True, banks throw money at students in the hope of them being in lots of debt by the time they leave college, and paying all that lovely interest.
I get a free £100 overdraft with the Halifax, again unused, but handy as a buffer zone if anything was ever being late paid in.
Which bank was it Cashy?

Think yourself lucky that they didn’t charge you £39 for that letter.

Re: Don't Be Ripped Off.
Not changed my overdraft amount for years. Will certainly have a good read of the paperwork the next time it’s up for renewal.

Re: Don't Be Ripped Off.
I've heard some of the Toms down Clayton Street in Blackburn don't charge twenty five quid for a face to face meet.

Re: Don't Be Ripped Off.
Me and my fiance have both arranged overdrafts at one point or another, and upped them, without any 'arrangement' fees whatsoever. I'd switch banks if I were you

Re: Don't Be Ripped Off.
H.S.B.C. do well to shorten their name from The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, because then people mightn't realise it Shanghai's it's own customers.
