Oh it's worse than that Janet. What should have been a simple DIY job has turned into something of major proportions due to unforseen circumstances.

Much as I'd love to say "yes" I have to defend him this time because he has effected a temporary solution so that we still have power until the major operation can be undertaken.

I was fitting a spur to the ring main curcuit but found that the wiring had deteriated so badly on the ring main that the insulation was falling away from the live and neutral wire. The condition remained the same further along the cable.

A complete re-wiring of the house is the only course of action....and quick!!
