dont you just hate it when

dont you just hate it when some moron dosnt realise they have dialed your phone and you cant ring out because their phone is holding up your line and all you can do is sit and listen

well i hope the thick piece of sh1t is on pay as you go because ive left it open so tha call wont cut off so the call will be active until either their credit runs out or they realise what they have done

Re: dont you just hate it when

I hate all the phone calls I get at home from people trying to sell me things. There's one in particular that's almost impossible to cut off, because it's a recorded message (although it doesn't sound like it initially). I hate being rude to them, cold calling is a lousy job, but it's their choice to do it and my privacy that is being invaded, and sometimes being quite rude is the only way to get rid of them.

Re: dont you just hate it when

surely though there must be a way of terminating an unwanted call , it shoudl be that when you hang up the connection is broken and your dial tone returns but for some reason you are at their mercey as to when the phonecall ends

Re: dont you just hate it when

I was called on my mobile the other day by a company who wanted to give me a new mobile and a 10% saving. After about 10 minutes of her time she found out that she could not beat my 120 mins a month for £15 and had wasted her time. She was really polite about it unlike most of them.

Re: dont you just hate it when

It can sometimes be very infuriating when you get phone calls trying to sell you a new mobile contract. I usually tell them immediately I am not interested and am very happy with my PAYG. As I only spend about £10.00 per month a contract phone would be more expensive, and I have one of the latest Motorola phones anyway, so I'm not interested in a phone upgrade. They still go on at length with their sales patter, which must cost them money.
One of the most infruiating calls I ever made was when I wanted to change my ISP. I rang AOL for a MAC code, and had to listen to a 30 minute rant about how they would give me a new modem, reduce my monthly fee etc, and rubbished my intended new ISP. After 30 minutes when I hadn't caved in to their rant they finally agreed to send me a MAC code, and then had the cheek to say I had wasted their time. Which I thought was impertinant, to say the least, as they could have agreed to my request for the MAC code as soon as I had asked. I was glad that I wasn't paying for the phone call though.

Talking Re: dont you just hate it when

All the spam phone calls that I get always start off with something like,
“Is that Mr James Buckley?” or “Can I speak to Mr James Buckley?”
I never acknowledge my name but always ask who is speaking.
Once they start their spiel and I know what it is they are trying to sell, I tell them “I’m not interested” and put the phone down without giving them a chance to reply or if they do start to reply they will be talking to themselves.

If I recognise the voice of the caller (because they have called many times in the past) they get two words shouted at them. One begins with B and the other with O when I’m feeling pleasant. You don’t want to know what they get after I’ve had a number of calls in an hour.

On one notable occasion one caller got the ‘treatment’ and called me straight back to blow a raspberry down the phone.

I have also a pre-prepared speech that I use once in a while, when I can remember. It goes like this:
“You have reached my home number. If you want to talk to me about UFO’s press 1.
Press 2 if you want to discuss politics.
Press 3 if you want to talk about computers or the Internet.
Press 4 if you want to chat about things in general.
I am willing to discus football in general so press 5.
If you are trying to sell me something then B….. O….”

Re: dont you just hate it when

A nice high pitch metal whistle or a airhorn would solve the problem. If I dont recognise the incoming number or its number withheld I dont answer. If it was important they would leave a message.

Re: dont you just hate it when

Hehehe, I tend to lay the phone handset gently onto the table and sod off into the kitchen and brew up. 20 minutes later when I return to the phone, they've always gone..... Alternatively, you can just say that you can't talk right now but if they leave their home number you will call them in their own time and discuss:- mobile phones/double glazing/insurance etc.

I don't get anywhere near as many as I used to since registering on TPS.

If you actually say to them that you are on TPS, they won't phone you again and you will be removed from their list... I had to do that with one company and threatened to report them if they did not stop calling.

Re: dont you just hate it when

Except that it only covers companies in teh UK. If they are ringing from India or Merkinland then it makes no odds to them

Re: dont you just hate it when

they also try to get round the TPS by saying "You recently took part in a survey and we would like to ask you a few questions about...(phones, mortgages, bank loans etc...)

I just say what survey and usually the reply is... "oh sorry to bother you"
