Re: Don't You Wish You Could Help?

Read this on teletext, what i want to know is why has the goverment not applied for it. It is so annoying:

EU cash ready to help victims

Millions in aid for flood damage could be available from Brussels - but the Government has not yet put in a bid for help, the European Commission said.

Any EU nation hit by "major natural disaster" causing damage exceeding £2bn can apply within 10 weeks of the crisis for cash relief from a £700m EU fund.

The fund was set up in 2002 and it supported eight disasters in seven EU countries in its first 15 months.

No point they wont listen. All that water will go to waste and if there is a drought next year there will be more moaning. Time for more places to hold it or flood draining canals like in the USA.

Re: Don't You Wish You Could Help?

I live in Evesham, it's absolutely incredible down here. I was here in the Easter '98 floods but these far surpass that. An 18' rise in the river level, very scarey. No question of getting over to work at Malvern because all most every bridge on the Avon and Severn is closed. Hole area almost at a standstill. And I always thought Accy was the wetest place in the world.

It was after a backlash about lack of coverage, and the seriousness of the problem, that promise of aid and more help was forthcoming. Also it was only after it had happened, that the rest of the country even knew Hull had been so badly affected.

Would it not be a good idea if all the media reporters and cameramen and the paperatzi and all the underemployed MP's rolled up their sleeves donned wellington boots and helped these poor souls to clear up and restore the homes they cherish?
It makes me cringe that reporters of the likes of Kay Burley enjoy reporting the miseries of the affected families and actually can find it funny so that her report can be put across in a humanitarian way.
Charge the media for their coverage and put the monies generated to a relief fund for the flood victims and charge them plenty.

agree with rindy,we were only saying the same thing this afternoon, also noted how quick the government visited the affected areas this time. its a terrible thing for any person to have to endure, but not as bad "up north" if the media has owt to do with it.
