DPD Local

Got home earlier to find a card through the door saying that DPD Local had tried to deliver something to me. I'd decided to go out early to get a job done and whilst I was out received a text at 8.05 saying that they would deliver between 8.15 and 9.15. I hadn't got time to get back but if they'd sent the text earlier I would have stayed in for a bit. Then I have to scan something which tells me they are taking it to my local DPD pick up shop because this saves on CO2 and I will be able to collect it tomorrow. My nearest pick up shop is 2 miles away which I will have to drive when they are almost certainly delivering round here again tomorrow. Can somebody explain to me how that saves on CO2. I tried to put a comment on their website but surprisingly that page isn't working!

Re: DPD Local

we got a message this morning saying a parcel of ours was delivered to number 18 and signed for. i have been in the front room all morning and NO-ONE has been to our house. the dog has been in with me. my wife sent them a message saying so,they sent one back with our postcode saying it was not valid we have lived here for years and thats our postcode they sent, i suspect its poor delivery people. my wife is getting clothes for a holiday we are taking shortly, and cannot get her size from most shops. this firm do not supply a phone number, we will NEVER USE them again thats for certain.

Re: DPD Local

Think most couriers, delivery firms are much the same. Had ordered 2 bottles of rum & on the front porch there's a large storage box for when I'm not in they can safely tuck the kit in there, oh no, 2 bottles in a box saying "Wine" left ot on top for every man & his dog to see.

Yet another order, a couple of bog standard T-shirts I was left a card saying they could be collected from the packet station in the next village along, absolutely mental, no consistency or pattern to the deliveries.

I have had two deliveries today…one from UPS and one from Hermes.
Both drivers were cheery and polite on a gay where it was hailstoning fit to bust.
I know there are some drivers that might be slapdash but there must be a lot who take pride in what they do.
I speak as I find and from personal experience.

On both counts I can agree, I know this personally because I have been & still am involved in transport & courier work so know & see what happens daily (I firmly place myself in the "pride in what they do" contingent).

Re: DPD Local

its got to a point now that a few months ago we got a friend to type out in beg letters and laminate a note to all delivery drivers that our house is not the one where they regularly drop things off at. Just because its no.3 with a different post code does not mean its a dumping ground for parcels. If we are not expecting anything then answering the door does not work as they are shoved in the wheelie bin or next to them. When put in the bin they remain there and those at other number 3,s can then argue the toss with their supplier. The whole delivery thing has got too large and beyond a joke now.

Re: DPD Local

I actually do not mind taking in deliveries for my working neighbours.

They come and pick them up from me as soon as they get home.
It means they are not inconvenienced in having to rearrange delivery and it means one less journey for the driver who would be returning to re-deliver.

Most of the delivery drivers know that we will take in parcels for all houses but one…..and that house has people who do not pick up their parcels…they expect me to take them up to their house and I am not doing that!

all that was fine when it was a weekly occurance and not a daily one that its become. there are 3 pick up points in shops less than a mile away if they will not be in but prefer not to use them. one day something will go missing and you could end up being involved in it.

Re: DPD Local

I do not mind at all how many days this happens…or how many times a day either.
If it saves my neighbours…..(who are all working) time…then I am for it.
It also saves the drivers extra journeys…..so, while I do not subscribe to the climate change thing….it means that the driver has more time to do deliveries, saves petrol….therefore money, making this service more economical for other users.
I am for that….but I get why it doesn’t suit everyone.

Another word that I thought I would pick you up on Dave, "Pride" can nowadays be encircled by a (Rainbow),

That is a different kind of PRIDE Taddy.
The one with the rainbow is Gay Pride…….the common variety of Pride that Dave was referring to was the ability to give. 100% to the job you are being paid to do.
Not just because you ARE being paid, but because of your work ethic, it means it makes you feel good to know you have given your best.

What a wonderful example of wokizm is the term 'Gay pride', two words of the English language that have been hijacked and given a completely different meaning to their original, and whoa betide* anyone that criticises their new usage!

Gay used to mean happy and pride was what you you felt when you had achieved something worthwhile.
Now, homosexuals and lesbians have lumped the words together to ram their differences in the faces of what used to be normal people.

*I just love that term, 'whoa betide', what the hell?

Yes…I felt sure you did but it was my feeble attempt at sarcasm Taddy…I thought you would have guessed that too.
