Thats correct Margaret. We have to use Peel St toilets, hence the fuss we kicked up when they closed them.

According to Hyndburn Council the contract extension was approved in May 2002. Who signed the contract?

2002 um think that was the year Labour took control for just 1 year, they also scrapped the direct works department at the same time

I think it's unlikely then that Labour got the toilet installed initially or extended the contract.
If there is money to be saved in the long run then I'm in agreement with biting the bullet and paying it off. But if the figures are true how long is that contract, has to be at least another 34 years before the termination saves money, if the cost really is 100K

My maths aren't that bad.
Having re-thunk the figures it shows what a ridicolous decision it was to close Peel St toilets and save £10k a year ( most of which was a human saving ) and stick to a £29k a year machine.

Re: Dr Who To Get His Tardis Back
It's in the Telegrapgh tonight ( news travels fast in LT world )
Quote:
Leader of the opposition, Peter Britcliffe said: “There’s been some awful bad management of this issue. The contract shouldn’t be so expensive to get out of and now tax payers have to pick up the tab - not to spend a penny.”
|
I'm sure I've asked once but surely somebody on Hyndburn Council knows who signed the contract

So who was council leader when the Tardis first landed?

I would assume any contract was checked by HBC legal people, they must check things really well because they never appear to be the quickest of departments. Thats not a dig at HBC because all legal people appear to work slowly - maybe they are being extra careful

Well normally they take so long so they can charge more Neil, looks like its a hard trait to shake when you move from the private to public sector and I think your right, they will have gone over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure it was viable

I'm of the understanding that it was Cllr Britcliffe and that the contract was signed on 30th April 2002, three days before an election. I haven't seen the contract papers myself but I believe that they have been found and the information will be freely available by emailing FOI:
