This law works well here in the States because if you dont show picture ID then you dont get served. Same goes if you want to buy a pack of fags as well.

Re: Drinking age to 21?

Lets see now teens running amok when trying to out do the resident drunken sots and the police stand by. The police are even scared to tackle them in case of accusations of brutality, neglect, victimisation etc.

The enforcement of the law is only possible if parents take their duty seriously as well. Giving a 14/15 year old £30 on a Friday and Saturday and telling them to enjoy them selves aint the way. Watching them at 5/6 in a morning staggering around because they darnt go home is sickening.

Better training for bouncers where young girls are entering licenced premises is needed as these girls though capable of sinking a few are the possible targets of the lesser minded element.

I have to agree that until there is full and proper enforcement of the law there is no point in trying to change it. Those under age who need their fix of Buckie and Vodka will allways find a way of getting their fix.

Yup ... that's the one. And now that I think of it, my grandad didn't say I was silly, he said "daft" which tho' similar, is not the same.

But on a more serious note, it's not the drinking age that is important; it's how parents handle the question of alcohol with their kids. Same with all the adult "issues": drugs, sex, relationships, beliefs, morals in general. It's a parenting thing; and governments are not parents, even tho' they try to behave that way.

Raise it to 40.Plus i.d to prove you are or have been married, own or rent your own home, have no convictions for drunken assault, have a bank account in your own name & are in full time employment, and are a non smoker. Then we can all drink in peace on the 1st Saturday night of the month when Accringtons only pub will be open. And leave under police escort as Accys angry horde of banned boozers lay siege to the place
