Re: Drivers and common sense
Think I can beat you on that one busman, coming down queen st in GH towards mini roundabout at the co-op. No-one coming from direction of where I have to give way so I carried on to go round the roundabout and a plonker (being polite) shot out of the co-op carpark without even stopping or looking right and nearly went into the side of me. I applied 10 ton pressure on my horn and he just turned and stuck 2 fingers up at me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Errr now that was definately my right of way!

Re: Drivers and common sense
Gotta be careful here Red, - You had the "right-of-way" but WHY?? do people feel it is necessary to blast their horn at the same time? If I am in a tight situation, I concentrate on the safety of people, and then my vehicle - and THEN swear under my breath (ok, sometimes over!) How do people find the time to hit their horn at the same time as swerving to avoid a collision?
I'm not having a go at you Red, it is something that has been on my mind for many years and this is my first opportunity to air it. I sound my horn probably less than a dozen times a year - and yet drive in excess of 100,000 miles per year, Am I doing sumfing wrong?

Breaking, steering, swearing, blasting horn, flashing lights, shaking fist and rude hand movements all at once is a skill that requires years of practice

Re: Drivers and common sense
Busman as the horn is in the middle of the steering wheel it was quite easy and as I was going pretty slow I had almost come to a stop so there was no manic swerving like something out of the dukes of hazzard
The horn is something that I have rarely used but Because he didn't even have the courtesy to look in my direction even after he was going past me I just thought I'm gonna make sure you know I'm here you b******!!!!! And was shocked when he turned and stuck his fingers up at me like it had been my fault!
Come on Willow do you really think a bloke will ever get their head round our multi tasking skills?????

This driver coming down, the one I was talking about, had space at the side of him where he could ahve safely pulled in. The row in Willows Lane is a long one and we were near the top coming up and NO spaces where we could have pilled in short of reversing all the way back down to the bottom again. Nobody can convince me that doing so wou;d have been the safer and more practical option of the two. He had nothing to hit. We had dozens of things we could have slid into the side of!
Oh, and whilst we're talking of Highway Code versus common sense what about the people who have been 'done' for crossing the stop line at a red light in order to allow an ambulance through flashing its lights and nee-nawing? Common sense would seem to indicate that getting out of the way to let the ambulance through takes priority but police, AA and RAC all say it's a No-No
|
On that basis I agree with you and folly. I did mention the bus that slid on the hill and got wedged elsewhere.
Bit supprised at the last bit. I've pulled through a red light a couple of times to let emergency vehicles through.

Surely that's a requirement of the driving test? I know it was when I learned to drive!
