How would you know if it were a business man though Eric ? Could have been some pensioner who resists 'banking arrangements'.

I wouldnt keep it.

my friend once handed in a wallet to the police station in blackburn he didnt even open it, he got a call from the police saying that the contents of the wallet were missing, so before you see a wallet/purse or whatever on the floor i would have someone witness that you hav'nt opened it before handing it into the police or you too may get accused of theft

Yeh, but that is only what Pam told us ....you wouldn't know beforehand though, only after if he had reported it and came to public knowledge.

This is just a hypothesis then ? You would have either had to see him drop it .. in which case had the opportunity to call him back, or he had lots of other items in the 'carrier bag' ... just suggesting he was a business man ?

Doubt whether this would ever happen ... a business man would surely have put this amount of cash in his brief case.

I wouldnt hand it into the police
What I would do is( as someone already said ) Avertise it. If someone has lost a large amount of money the first thing for them to do is trace thier steps Therefor I would tell local shops etc that I have found it and leave contact details..

My son lost his wallet last year . We went to the bookies to put a bet on the National and he left it on the side in the bookie. Hell I though that was def the last he had seen of iot . But nope someone had handed it in. I were gobsmacked but relieved for him..

I found £15 in asda when i was a kid and we handed it in and i got it back because no one claimed it. I felt so rich having £15 in my pocket. £10 went into the bank and i spent a £5!!!!

Anyway anyone finding a grand in a plastic bag would be better off taking it to the police station - it could be fake!!! Imagine trying to spend it in a shop and finding out it was fake ... Your honour i found the money in a plastic bag - well why didnt you take it to the police station and report that you had found it?

Eric, you are making assumptions here......do all business people 'screw' their clients?
I have been privileged in my lifetime to know(and trust) some honest business folk......folk who have been generous with their donations to local causes.....things that would brighten the lives of those who live in our little town.
justifying keeping money found in these circumstances is just a salve to a conscience.
How do you know this business person is not struggling to make ends meet....maybe just a thousand quid from going under? You don't! No I would not keep money found in such a situation, for the reasons I have outlined.

Totally agree with you Margaret, but even so my conscience wouldn't let me keep it, I any cases like this I always try to put myself in the other guys possition and think how I'd feel
