I myself have had to endure being called a Tory on this very Forum..I tell you I fell into the deepest of depression ... no words of comfort could help me.. but with help from my doctor and family I gained a recovery..but I don't like to talk about it.

So, Mancie, you're against the snail eaters' and the Huns' move to curb the excesses of rampant capitalism by greater regulation of the financial markets, including the naming and shaming of offshore tax havens?

I, therefore, name and shame you as an out-and-out Tory!

well you could put it that way ..but the French and Germans are Tories.. therefore anything they even think of doing is off my agenda... any rampant capitalism is a true and tested addiction that lasts a few years then collapses... it is a enconomic policy that is the foundation of Torys.. the "Holy Grail" ...survival of the fittest.. but they are not the fittest ... with the power of the democracy and people who stand against them they can be overcome.

Re: E20 summit

So, the French and Germans are Tories for wanting tighter regulation of financial markets? But the British and Yanks who want less regulation are somehow more left wing?

Sometimes, Mancie, I worry about you...I really do.

The usual gobbledegook. So, in other words, you've no argument because you're talking absolute rubbish!

You started this thread, Mancie, and the premise you put forward was that the split at G20 had been caused by our continental "friends" pursuing some sort of extreme Tory line, while we were going for a more "sensible economic policy" (which, I assume, in your eyes means a more left wing approach).

In fact, the opposite is true. France and Germany want tighter regulation of financial markets to curb the worst excesses of capitalism, whereas we want less regulation. In other words, Mancie, you've been proved completely and utterly wrong.

Now is that clear enough, even for a Blackburn-born, London-dwelling plastic Manc?

Re: E20 summit

I am not sure that the colour of your rosette makes any difference in this caes. The leading politicians of the world have got together in order to sort out the whole mess but instead of getting round the table and finding a solution they do what politicians do best, fall out amongst themselves.

They are all from the same mould and our only hope is that Barack Obama can unite them long enough for them to thrash out a compromise. I am with the French and Germans on this as the whole mess appears to have been caused by the greedy financial sectors of the USA and the UK.

I am not too hopeful that this bunch can sort anything out, take their organisation of the meetings. Do they hold them in a fortified castle, of which we have many, where security would be very easy to control and demonstrators could easily be kept away? No, they hold the meetings in the middle of a busy city and disrupt the lives of many thousands of people.

I saw the cavalcades going past this morning about seven-ish, as I was walking down a road in Wapping called the Highway, which runs between the City and 'Docklands'. Cops were everywhere, blocking off side street entrances and exits, many with guns. They were coming through every 2 minutes - armoured Limo's, 4 X 4's full of close protection, people carriers for the plebs, and in some cases an ambulance following up behind. The organisation was supurb...something the Met, under the command of ex-Accy cop Sir Paul, can well be well proud of.

Until, that is, I came to the Texaco Garage, just opposite the Times Editorial offices and by a slight bend on the road. A perfect ambush position ( for those who know about these things). There sat on the wall, was a very swarthy looking indivdidual with a large canvas bag at his feet. Sticking out of this bag was about 2ft of pipe, 4" diameter. The nearest cop was some distance away.

"Bloody Hell", I thought, "It's the back end of an RPG!".......and the cops didn't appear to have spotted it! Just as I was working out what to do, the guy bent down to open the bag...this was getting hot, very hot.

I looked up, and lo and behold, there coming up the road was the French President and his entourage.

"Good Luck, mate", I whispered, and walked on.

This is a true story. Well, almost.

I don't think that regulating the banks is particularly smart, just basic common sense and the city investors who took risky gambles with volatile prices were bound to go the way of most gamblers, down.

The boys in suits have got all the money but where is it?
