What about the contractor demolishing the houses, he will make a bob or two from all the dressed stone, slates etc. Could be HBC are paying him to demolish. Then we have the rebuild of what ever, who makes the profit from that..........the contractor. If one shop owner got £70k for his shop, what did other home owners get, so what is the cost of total demolishion. But there we go yet another community torn apart, lost forever.

Think its a re-run of the 60's/70's where the planners thought everyone would like to live in "Tower Blocks". Blackburn built some, and demolished them, but they are still paying for them even now.
All down to the planners and some bright spark architect, that think they can read the minds of normal people, and know how they want to live, or live in.

Whilst listening to the radio the other day, a local station, there were two architects answering questions..........they were father and son, both had different opinions on the demolishion of old terraced property, but were in agreement on the worst town centre, you guessed it, it was Accrington.

Re: East Accrington/phoenix projects...
I don't think it's so much the lack of cleanliness but the whole lack of character now. The town centre no longer seems to have an identity or a heart.

Yes your right people used to know each other and talk to each other , now your frightened of saying the wrong thing. The cleanliness issue in the town centre does leave a lot to be desired though.

Re: East Accrington/phoenix projects...
Oh I'm as anti-grot as the next woman and I think a good clean up would go a long way to improve things but I was meanig the eyesores which masquerade as achitecture, not least all that "Wilkinsons block".

Re: East Accrington/phoenix projects...
Yep, that as well. There is some lovely architecture hidden by cheap and tacky shop signs.
