Re: Election - Place yer bets.
Aye....I dunno where the count is now. is it the Sports Centre?
Anyway, the first results suggest a recount in Hyndburn.
Oh Dear. looks like we're in for a long night. I should have got more beer in.

Re: Election - Place yer bets.
I don't bet, but my predictions are that Graham Jones will win Hyndburn, with a reduced majority, and for the Conservatives just to scrape a workable majority in Westminster.
Brown isn't wanted.

Yeah, think it's the sports centre now.
You staying up?
I'm not.

Re: Election - Place yer bets.
In view of what seems to be a swing to the Tories in the North-East wonder if the Hyndburn Tories are regretting their actions in withdrawing their support for local candidate

Aye, I had three hours kip earlier.
I'll stay up to about the 100th seat declared, probably about 2am which is when I'll run out of beer (Thwaites Bomber, if you must know...£1.42 a bottle at Wapping Waitrose).

I just watched the first two results too, and am even more certain that this country needs proportional representation.
It's too difficult to predict a swing in two constituencies with such massive majorities. Lots of people there must feel disenfranchised, and that how they vote won't make any difference to the result, within these artifical political boundaries.
People must feel, of all parties, that it's a foregone conclusion, as witnesed by the turn-out, which was about 55%. Meaning 45% of people didn't bother.

Waitrose in the East End, how very gentrified.
I'll listen until about two, but can't be doing with all the new jiggery-pokery, computer graphics, that are instead of the old swing-o-meter, which was probably knocked up in a basement at the Beeb, by a Blue Peter runner.

Re: Election - Place yer bets.
Sunderlands had a low turnout presumably because they are safe labour seats. I suspect the turnout will be far higher in most seats, especially marginals. But there is going to be alot of legal stuff going on now over people not being able to vote.
I had to queue this morning for 10 minutes; not because of a large number of people voting, but because there were only three people manning the polling station - usually its at least twice that.

True, that's why we need proportional represntation. So all people actualy think their vote is important, and will make a difference in who sits in the Commons.
If this means extremist parties win seats, so be it.
Perhaps the main stream parties will then address the issues that mean people turn to the far right/left.

You havin' a laugh?
No, you still have to queue, tell some dodderer your number, and take your slip into the booth, and make a mark with a stubby pencil.
Since there's always calls that the postal votes are rigged, and there are lots of secured things done on the internet, why we can't vote online is open to question.
I'm suprised we can't text a vote.
