End of an Era

Im being maudlin here

I've just come out of the Rising Bridge Inn which has been my local for well really all my life. I've been going in there for 30 years with my mum & dad at first, then when i was 16 going in on my own. Anyway its going to be an indian restaurant and tonight was its last night before its being turned into the indian restaurant. It was also the last night of the pool and we were at home for our last match.

We are all going to miss the Rising Bridge. The nearest pubs are down Bash or in Haslingden or the Farmers Glory coming downs not bad you dont feel it but getting there in the first place hiking up that hill..............

If you look on the old maps of Rising Bridge - the earliest one i have got is 1829 and the Rising Bridge Inn is marked on there. Thats a long time for a pub.

Re: End of an Era

Mani theyve been running on managers for a while. When they got decent landlord and landladies they didnt back them and so the pub went down hill. People stopped going in because they werent made welcome. Then theyd put managers in they'd get it going again and then they'd swap over the past couple of years they've had 7 landlords & landladies. All because the brewery wouldnt back them.

Re: End of an Era

Sorry to hear about the pubs closure but i think its the way of the future.Greedy breweries, smoking ban, rent increases, longer hours.I reckon in another 10 to 20 years there will be 3 or 4 pubs to cater for all of Accy, along the lines of The Calder or B'burns Postal Order.

I'm so sorry, Jen, I know how much you enjoyed going there and I have fond memories from my teenage years. The only place I could sup under age without my father finding out.

So sorry xx

It just won't seem like Rising Bridge without the Rising Bridge Inn.

Re: End of an Era

Get the impression the breweries want max profit min investment and if it dosnt look that way on their spreadsheets they just sell the pubs. They are ripping the heart out of communities with this attitude.

There's still a corn mill - but I don't think it mills corn.

Re: End of an Era

Nope willow it sells dog food (doesnt it cashy ) and hay and straw etc.

The nearest pub is the Farmers Glory up on the top road but thats shut at the minute being refurbished. So its either down Baxenden to the Bay Horse, Dog & Partridge or Alma and the Dog & Partridge is looking favourite at the min seeing as its on the back lane and not so far to stagger home!!
