Eyesore site up for sale

'PRIVATE cash is needed to transform an eyesore Hyndburn gateway into an up-market canalside development according to the council’s leader.'

'The Hargreaves Warehouse site remains a blot on the Accrington, Church and Oswaldtwistle border despite regeneration plans being drawn up in 2004.'

'The Grade II listed building is currently up for auction with a guide price of £130,000, but its fate now hinges on attracting the right developer, according to council leader Peter Britcliffe.'

Eyesore Hyndburn regeneration site up for sale (From Lancashire Telegraph)

There are some comments from a former Accy Web member, regarding the planned redevelopment at Church.

Just like the Con Club and Canon Street Church this building has been allowed to fall into disrepair. The council need to keep on top of the upkeep of these listed buildings, as Graham has pointed out you can't just demolish them

Yes you can. If no one wants to buy it and it is an eyesore it should be taken from the owner and demolished.

I am fed up of properties looking like that because the owner can not or will not keep them looking decent.

Our own MP says that any investor would pay out more than he would get back in. That makes it worthless so it should be compulsory purchased for nothing and demolished.

That whole area is one big ugly mess.

The reason it's fallen into disrepair is because it is no longer profitable, if a use could have been found for it, it would have been found long before it ended up in this dilapidated state.
Lets not waste time or money it and the sadly demised Commercial Hotel next door need to be removed, not renovated.

I don't think i remember a time in my life when the Commercial was open, that building should have been pulled down a long time ago along with the red bricked building across the road, that part of Church always looks dark and dismal

Re: Eyesore site up for sale

Much as I hate to say it, I'm sure the area would look better if it was demolished and the canal opened up, that crossroads was always dark and gloomy

Its the same with a lot of these properties, especially those under protection orders, if organisations such as English Heritage when these builds to be kept on then by all means find the money for there upkeep, and unless they are prepared to do that, but out, a prime example is Rhyddings Mill a total eyesore, and for what

If it became a public hazard....then would it be permissable to demolish it on grounds of health and safety?

I agree with most of the posters on here......it is an eyesore and the whole area needs to be looked at......it gives a terrible impression when coming into the borough.

Perhaps it's a great relief for those leaving though? Knowing when they see that, at last, they are finally getting out of Hyndburn.

Errr...Less...where's your sense of geography? The warehouse is pretty central to Hyndburn...two miles west to the Intack boundary with Blackburn, two and a bit miles east to the boundary with Burnley, two miles north to the boundary with Ribble Valley and a couple of miles south to whatever lies beyond Ossy.

Errr... Tealeaf...For someone being precise you didn't read my post very well.

I said finally getting out, I didn't say that they were out.

If they came along Blackburn Rd around 4 o'clock to reach that spot it would no doubt have taken three quarters of an hour from town, the last two miles, would be a short journey in comparison.

Lazy buggar. Try walking. Railway pub to Church Commercial = 17 minutes. You'll even get fit, unlike those lazy, moaning fatso's, stuck in their cars and doing nowt only polluting Church's clean air.
