Re: factory closure

Yet another closure eh. There’s never a good time to have this sort of thing happen but it always seems that little bit worse when it happens at this time of year. There’s a saying “As one door closes another opens” the trouble is that we seem to be running out of new doors is this part of the country. Can only wish those involved the best of luck for the future.

I was being polite, not mentioning that. I worked in the office from 1990 to 1996, I can't believe I lasted as long as I did. It was a large room, with about 20 people in it, and there weren't any windows - you never knew whether it was daylight outside or not.

You must have been in the finishing side where we did radio panels and such like. It was a joke if you were on the production side they just kept moving the goalposts!!!

Re: factory closure

Up until a few weeks ago there was jobs advertised in the job centre for aat, glad i didnt apply now. Shame to hear its closed though, never a good time to lose jobs in the area, its hard enough to find local work without more places shutting. Hope everyone involved can find work soon.

My dads worked there for the past 12yrs, he was due to retire next July, I doubt he'll be able to find anything now at his age.

Re: factory closure

I worked there for 8 years on the shop floor(5 yrs night shift), best thing I ever did was leave, the amount of pressure the workers were put under was immense. There were so many on the sick with stress it was unreal.

Having said that though, when I started back in 95 it was a good place to work, we had £200 crimbo bonuses, we used to have regular nights out to wigan and preston the wages were bloody good at £6-a hour for nights.

Then the french took over, out went the bonuses, no pay rise for 5 years(nad when we did finally get one, you couldn'e buy 10 fags with it after tax) all the machines were speeded up and operators reduced they really did take it to cracking point, and a good few did.

All in all, I have many fond memories from there and wish the 130 staff all the best finding work, I'm sure they will.
