a lady has been given a ticket- despite being parked legally in a free car park. and has been regularly left the car in the small free car park in Darwin, behind HSBC for seven-and-a-half years, she said i have been parking there. but last week she got a fine.

Did this happen in Australia?

It's difficult to comment on this without seeing the full story.

Where did you hear of it? Newspaper? Could you post a link?

I'm sure the lady in question would not have been issued with a fine if she hadn't broken a rule or it could be a simple error.......more details please.

Ahh they think it's cos of the yellow lines next to her car

Do they get full training when becoming a traffic warden?
Or are they just thrown onto the streets after a kick up the backside with a pen and paper in hand?

Not Australia then.

As I first thought, it appears that an error was made. There was confusion between the parking bay and the yellow lines on the street.

The lady contested the fine and the fine was cancelled.

The fine has been revoked as a gesture of goodwill according to the link.

Re: fined for free parking

Looking at the picture don't think I would chance parking there in the first place.

There was no story to tell really was there?

They must be hard up for news today.

I've had more exciting things than that happen to me today.....I won't contact the Telegraph though.

i watched some paint dry today , if i had known the telegraph was so desperate for a scoop i would have sold them the details

mind you any story that exposes the over eagerness of these little hitlers is ok by me

Had my root canal work completed.

Went to work.

Going to see Jenny Eclair at King George's Hall tonight.

Not exactly edge of your seat stuff but a better tale than a cancelled parking fine.

There IS a story there!! As Bernadette pointed out: "We have cancelled the penalty charge notice as a gesture of goodwill and reviewed the enforcement of this area to stop any re-occurrence in the future."

No apology, but as a "gesture of goodwill" they are cancelling the ticket issued - pompous bureaucrats!!!
