Fire on the site of the old Highams Mill.

My Ma phoned me first thing this morning to say that she had had a disturbed night due to the fact that the fire engines had been on the site of the Woodnook mill......trying to put out a fire.
Has anyone heard anything about this?

Re: Fire on the site of the old Highams Mill.

I predict a spate of unsuspicious fires in the next two days as a number of S215 notices are due to be enforced, basically meaning that a property needs to be tidied up to a reasonable standard.

There were three fires on an infamous row of derelicts in Rishton yesterday.

Nothing to see here, move along.

The fire brigade were putting something out when we drove past at about 8.20 this morning, looked to be over by the trees.

Re: Fire on the site of the old Highams Mill.

Over the last couple of days someone has been cutting the trees down(not sure if this was legal or not as the Country Ranger and the police were supposed to be checking yesterday).......Ma said that the fire was where some of this tree felling had been done, but also that it seemed to take ages for the brigade to get the fire under control.

There are coal seams in this area and Ma wondered whether it was related to this.......a leak of 'fire damp' gases.
The brigade were using water and then foam to extinguish the blaze and the police were in attendance even after the fire was out. It just seemed a bit 'strange'.
I am just being really nosey.

They had been there from 1am.......and the wood would(no pun intended) have been relatively easy to extinguish, I would have thought.
Also there was quite a police presence too.
