If any of you feel strongly about the indiscriminate sale of fireworks and they way some idiots use them to terrorise others you may be interested in this petition.

Re: Fireworks Petition

I've signed it Willow.

I've had endless problems with fireworks in the run up to 5th Nov. I've phoned the police before now when fireworks have been going off at about 11 o'clock in the evening on an ordinary Friday night simply because some blokes have come home from the pub and decided to set the kids fireworks off a few weeks early. The police response, 'there's nothing we can do'. If they can fine people for pipping their car horn after that time then surely they can do something about nuisance fireworks at that time too.

I've written to Greg Pope about it and he has been quite active in the commons about changing regulations on the sale of fireworks.

Re: Fireworks Petition

Signed sealed and delivered willow. It s a good idea considering the amount of noise and how dangerous these items are. I think it might still be a firearms offence or something along that line if misused or used as weapons to frighten /intimidate others.

Re: Fireworks Petition

I have also signed it willow, i'm quite sure that kids could enjoy bonfire night without fire works. They could still have the fire (under supervision) and the treats, without all the need for the noise that fireworks bring.I am not a kill joy but the noise gets worse every year.

Re: Fireworks Petition

I like the pretty ones in proper displays but a lot of those sold in shops round here are just bigger and louder noises and it's frightening what damage they can do.

Does anyone know if places like the Dunkenhalgh and Sparth Hotel have to have licences for letting off fireworks....? Some saturday nights I will be just getting off to sleep and the fire crackers will start......front of us is Dunk..... behind us Sparth.....it can be quite annoying.

Re: Fireworks Petition

I'm in a bit of a quandry over this one; on the one hand I do feel that it is a nuisance to have brain-dead prats letting off fireworks at all hours of the day and night weeks before the proper time for no other reason than that they can. But, on the other hand, I like fireworks. I enjoyed them when I was a child and I still enjoy them - I recall a truly memorable New year's Eve in Amsterdam which was like being in the middle of an artillery bombardment - great fun!

Acrylic-Biff hates them, well he would, he's a dog. I cannot help thinking that the increased use of these things is due in large part to unscrupulous wholesalers and retailers and it is these people that the Police should be clamping down on, in the same way that they should be clamping down on retailers who sell alcohol and tobacco to children.

Re: Fireworks Petition

Yep, signed as well.

To gayle, did not the police do a task force thing on fireworks in the run up to last 5th nov. Seem to remember PC Tracy Finn's photo in the observer saying how well the operation had gone. May be a gentle reminder to who ever you spoke to at the police station, because the police have the powers granted by the home office, to do something about fireworks being set off before the 5th nov.

Re: Fireworks Petition

Fireworks are something that I've never really liked. I do like to watch a good display from a distance, but can't stand the thought of irresponsible kids and adults letting them off at all hours of the day or night. Fireworks seem to be acceptable all year round now, which I totally disagree with. Therefore I have also signed.
